🐾 Jerry the Flying Border Collie – Progress Update!

Jerry is really starting to come to life in the Fire & Light workshop!

The steelwork is now complete, and he's ready for the next important stage — sandblasting, etch priming, and two coats of epoxy enamel.

This finishing process will provide excellent long-term weather protection, helping Jerry withstand the elements for years to come.

There's something special about watching a custom sculpture progress from raw steel into a lasting piece of garden art.

A New Blue Wren Takes Shape!

There's another little Blue Wren coming to life in the Fire & Light workshop!

This video captures the early stages of creating our latest Blue Wren sculpture, handcrafted from steel and eventually featuring beautiful stained glass.

There's still plenty of work ahead, but it's always rewarding watching a new sculpture begin to take shape.

🎈 Drifting Away

A little spotlight on one of my sculptures, Drifting Away.

Standing 1.9 metres tall, this hot air balloon sculpture combines handcrafted steel, vibrant stained glass and natural sandstone.

One of the things I love about working with stained glass is how the sculpture changes throughout the day, with sunlight bringing different colours and reflections to life.

🐾 Jerry is taking shape!

The basic steel framework for Jerry the Flying Border Collie is now complete!

Next up is preparing the stained glass that will bring colour and character to this energetic little fellow.

Still plenty of work ahead, but it's great to see Jerry starting to come to life!

A new commission begins…

Meet Jerry – the Flying Border Collie! 🐾

Jerry is captured doing what he does best — absolutely flying! This new commission is based on this great action shot, and I’ve started forming the steel framework that will bring his movement, character and energy to life.
There’s a fair bit of work ahead, but already you can see Jerry beginning to emerge from the steel.

I’ll share more photos as this one progresses from a collection of bent steel into the finished sculpture.

🔥 THE VERY FIRST FIRE PIT 🔥

This is where it all started.

The very first fire pit I made for Fire & Light — the beginning of a design that has continued to evolve ever since.

There’s something special about looking back at the first one. The design may have developed, the finishes have improved and plenty more have left the workshop since, but every journey has to start somewhere.

Handmade in Tasmania from steel, built to be used, enjoyed and to become a feature in the garden.
