Our story began in 2004, and more than 22 years later, we're still doing what we love—building homes and helping Australian families create places they are proud to call home.
CJ Homes is a privately owned and operated residential building company with a reputation for delivering quality new homes. As a licensed Category 4 Builder, we are approved to undertake up to $60 million of residential construction annually. While that sounds impressive today, our beginnings were much more modest.
Like many successful businesses, we started small. In our early years, building fewer homes allowed us to refine our systems, learn our craft, and establish the foundations that have helped us become the builder we are today. In fact, over the past five years alone, our team has delivered more than 500 new homes to families across Queensland.
Being family-owned has always shaped the way we do business. From day one, our vision was simple: support local family-owned suppliers and local trades wherever possible. More than two decades later, many of the suppliers and tradespeople who worked with us in the beginning are still working alongside us today. In an industry where relationships can come and go as quickly as building trends, that's something we're incredibly proud of.
In 2010, we expanded beyond South East Queensland and established CJ Homes Central Queensland in Rockhampton. At the time, we entered the market with a bold idea—offering a genuine Full Turn Key building experience with upfront fixed-price contracts. While that may sound normal today, it was far from common at the time.
We initially focused on helping First Home Buyers enter the market through affordable house and land packages in Gracemere. By 2011, demand saw us expand into the Next Home and Dream Home markets, and we have continued to grow ever since. Remarkably, many of the suppliers and trades who helped build our very first Central Queensland homes are still part of the CJ Homes family today.
Over the years, we have challenged industry norms and continuously improved what customers receive as standard. We became known for including more in our homes than many others in the market. In fact, we were among the first builders in our region to include timber-look vinyl flooring as a standard inclusion—something that was considered a premium upgrade at the time.
Of course, no 22-year journey would be complete without a few challenges along the way.
We've navigated the Global Financial Crisis, Cyclone Marcia, COVID-19, material shortages, labour shortages, rising costs, and more building regulation changes than we care to count. In fact, just when we think we've mastered the latest regulations, someone usually decides to update them again.
Fortunately, our team has developed a unique ability to adapt, innovate, and occasionally laugh through the chaos. After all, if you can survive Queensland weather, a global pandemic, and constant regulatory changes, you can probably survive just about anything.
Today, family ownership is becoming increasingly rare in the building industry, but it remains one of our greatest strengths. Our focus continues to be on our people, our homes, and our values.
We remain committed to supporting local trades and suppliers wherever possible and delivering homes that are genuinely move-in ready. Our Full Turn Key approach means customers receive a home with the important details already completed—not a list of expensive surprises waiting after handover.
Banks appreciate the way we structure and price our homes. Insurance companies appreciate the quality inclusions and protective features we include as standard. Most importantly, homeowners appreciate knowing exactly what they are getting.
At our core, we believe in delivering exceptional value. Our staff, suppliers, and trades are carefully selected to ensure every home reflects the standards we have built our reputation upon.
We often describe ourselves as the Toyota of the building industry.
Not because we're flashy. Not because we're trying to reinvent the wheel.
But because we're reliable, dependable, practical, and focused on long-term value.
And if our homes were a car, our inclusions would be the Camry—everything you need already included, built to perform, easy to live with, and designed to keep delivering long after the warranty period has ended.
Throughout our 22 years, we've watched builders enter the market and leave the market. We've seen housing booms, market downturns, changing trends, and every emotion imaginable from excited homeowners embarking on one of life's biggest investments.
What continues to make us proud isn't simply the homes we've built.
It's the relationships we've created.
The loyalty of our staff.
The commitment of our trades.
The trust of our suppliers.
And most importantly, the confidence our homeowners place in us every day.
Beyond building homes, we have always believed in supporting the communities that support us.
During 2026 alone, CJ Homes Central Queensland proudly supported:
• Naming Rights Sponsor – CapRescue Golf Day, helping raise more than $28,000 for emergency rescue services.
• Silver Sponsor – Jabiru Community Ball supporting the Yeppoon RSL Sub Branch.
• Support for local trades participating in the Cancer Council Sh*tbox Rally.
• Support for the Darkness to Daylight campaign helping raise awareness around domestic violence.
• Sponsorship of numerous junior and senior sporting organisations throughout the region.
These initiatives represent the values that matter to us as a family business—supporting our local communities, local charities, and local people.
As we reflect on the past 22 years, there is one group of people we thank above all others.
Our homeowners.
Without your trust, support, referrals, and confidence in our team, CJ Homes would not be the company it is today.
Thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey.
Here's to the next chapter, the next home, and the next generation of families who will walk through the front door of a CJ Home and call it their own.
