In New South Wales, waterproofing of residential wet areas must comply with the National Construction Code (NCC) and the Australian Standard AS 3740:2021 – Waterproofing of Domestic Wet Areas.

These standards set the minimum requirements for the design, materials and installation of waterproofing systems in areas such as bathrooms, laundries and toilets to prevent water pe*******on and structural damage. Typically, bathroom floors must be fully waterproofed, while shower walls must be waterproofed to a minimum height of 1800 mm above the finished floor level, with all wall-to-floor junctions, pe*******ons and drainage points properly sealed. Floors must also be graded toward a floor waste to allow effective drainage.

In NSW, waterproofing work is considered a licensed trade, meaning it must be carried out by a qualified contractor and installed in accordance with these standards to ensure durability, compliance and protection of the building structure.

WATERPROOFING >

Proper waterproofing is a critical step in any bathroom construction, forming a sealed membrane that protects the underlying structure from moisture ingress and long-term water damage. When professionally applied, it ensures all wet areas — including floors, walls, pe*******ons, and junctions — are fully compliant and safeguarded against leaks, mould, and structural deterioration, ultimately extending the lifespan of the finishes installed over it.

Hebel is a lightweight autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) building material commonly used for walls, floors, and panels in residential and commercial construction. Made from natural raw materials like sand, cement, lime, and water, Hebel is cured under high pressure and heat, creating a strong yet highly aerated structure. The result is a product that offers excellent thermal insulation, fire resistance, soundproofing, and durability, while being faster to install than traditional brickwork. Its lightweight nature reduces structural load and construction time, making it a popular choice for modern, energy-efficient buildings.

Modern architectural homes are defined by clean lines, open-plan living and a strong connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, often using materials such as concrete, glass, steel and timber to create a minimalist, light-filled aesthetic. They prioritise functionality, energy efficiency and contemporary lifestyles, with features like large windows, flat or skillion roofs and seamless transitions to alfresco areas.

In contrast, traditional designed homes draw inspiration from classic styles, featuring pitched roofs, decorative detailing, defined rooms and warmer, more familiar materials such as brick, stone and timber. These homes emphasise character, symmetry and a sense of permanence, often evoking heritage and timeless appeal, whereas modern architectural homes focus on innovation, simplicity and a forward-looking design approach.
