📣🏫 Schools evolve at least every decade, buildings should evolve with them📣📚
At the 5th Annual Modern Methods of Construction conference last week, our Director of Client Relations Barney Goodsell explored the challenge facing schools and many other sectors: the accelerated rate of change is leaving traditional builds behind.
⚠️ School buildings typically last between 30 and 50 years.
⚠️ The Australian curriculum is reviewed roughly every 10 years.
A school building constructed today will still be in use by 2055; the curriculum will have been overhauled at least 3x by then.
Barney demonstrated how modular and offsite construction can deliver adaptable spaces that respond to changing pedagogy, enrolment growth, and long-term community needs.
Flexibility isn’t just a design concept; it is a strategic advantage. It protects long term asset value by enabling:
✅ Staged construction
✅ Vertical expansion
✅ Alignment with funding cycles and approvals
✅ The building to be repurposed, relocated or resold
Huge thanks to Trueventus and event partners (IMD, Stack Modular, Westbuilt Homes, Kingspan Group, Taskforce, Aruva Modular, Combilift, Moddex Group) for getting the industry together at this key event.
