Tucked off to the side of the home, this living space was designed as a quieter retreat from the main living areas.⁠
The windows let in light throughout the day — large, open, and drawn toward the fields, so the room feels tied to the land around it.⁠

With the fireplace centred, this becomes a room of conversation, sitting and just a place where the world can slow down as you take in the beautiful surrounds. ⁠

Shotton Lodge
With behind the landscaping, the house settles into its surrounds rather than a house placed into an existing space.
The planting works to shape the functional spaces, as well as working with the paddocks instead of drawing a line against them.

Functional and incredibly organic in feel, softening the line between the built and the open.

From a 1978 home to one that reads as though it was always this way.
It's hard to imagine Shotton Lodge without the open space again.
Lifting the ceilings and adding windows was the opportunity here — not just more space, but more air through the whole house.

The rooms open up to the paddocks now, so the home sits more naturally in the landscape it's part of. Bringing the outdoors in, whilst never letting it feel exposed.

Shotton Lodge
We've gone with warm natural timbers throughout, not only to make the space feel grounded and calm, but to draw the paddocks and the light inside, so the house blends perfectly into the landscape. No matter where you are, it feels at home.

Carefully crafting the palette came down to how the materials sit together. Warm timber against natural stone that maintains a warm touch. Grain running through from the floor to the joinery, each one softening the next. It's a quiet combination, and it's what gives the room space, and a feeling of being at home.

At Shotton Lodge, the original kitchen was walled off from everything — small, dark, facing away from the light and the paddocks. Taking those key walls out gave the ground floor a single connected space and gave the kitchen the aspect it should always have had.

Timber joinery runs the length of the room, warm against natural stone, the grain carrying through from one run to the next. There's detail is in what you don't see too — with storage worked into every cabinet, appliances set back so the bench line stays unbroken, junctions cut flush. Once the walls came out, the joinery defined the space.

Everything here was built for use, whilst always looking spectacular.

Such a special project for so many reasons, but especially as it welcomes for us and . A collaborative design and build studio, bringing a new approach to modern luxury for homes across Australia.

At Shotton Lodge, we carefully worked with the original home, whilst re-working how the home felt from start to finish. From function to finishes, every aspect was carefully mapped out to create this incredible home.
Finished with premium detail throughout, we can't wait to show you more of this in the coming weeks.
