Whilst as National coach, you have to be quite wary about Cadet Sails. I often say there are 5-6 class sailmakers who make quality sails. (In fact I have received comms from rival sailmakers thanking me for being magnanimous). But allow us a brief moment of hubris, our spinnakers seem to be the benchmark! All our world championship winning designs will soon be available worldwide through our friends at Hyde Sails.

A few more sails going through this week. Some Envy Class mainsails and Furling Savage Dolphin jibs for sailing school. Plus a Noelex 30 Genoa for Hammo race week.

One of our regular maintenance jobs is replacing the UV covers or sacrificial strips on furling sails. Recent developments like Tenara thread have extended the life span of sails significantly. Saving resewing every few years.

In 90+% of cases sails will fail from the trailing edge (leech) forward as they age as the cloth and thread deteriorate with UV and folding and flex ( the flap travels across the sail and ends up hinging on the leech turnover or batten pocket as the case may be). So always check the leech for breakdown signified by elongated sewing holes, loose thread or small horizontal creases coming off the leech. A good way to grab a few extra years on an aging sail is to fit another layer of cloth down the leech over the weak points. This 2 ply should be standard on true blue water sails.

The new Hyde 36cm training mark is proving to be one of the fastest selling products on our website.

Designed with ease of use in mind, they provide an incredibly effective training aid out on the water, enabling coaches to deploy and amend a course quickly, maximising productive sailing time.

Manufactured in highly visible orange PVC with welded seams, a SUP style valve for fast inflation, and a grab handle for ease of use on the water. Combine with the provided sand bag or a small weight to anchor.
