Earlier this year, we proudly celebrated the launch of Kurtarra Plant & Equipment, a milestone made possible through Fortescue’s Buriya Capital Funding program with ANZ.
KCU has been a proud partner of Fortescue for over 10 years, delivering dewatering infrastructure projects.
Now operating at Cloudbreak and Christmas Creek, the plant has been hired to KCU and is already contributing to project success on site.
To mark the occasion, we welcomed guests from Fortescue, Kurtarra, CAPE Dunstans, ANZ, CJD, and other valued stakeholders to join us as the ribbons were officially cut. The event began with a Welcome to Country and didgeridoo performance by Robyn Collard and her grandson, a meaningful start to a day focused on connection, progress, and partnership.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating this important step forward.

Huge congratulations to the Natives United Rugby Team for winning the grand final at the NRL WA Harmony Cup. It was a tough weekend of rugby, but the team fought hard and showed true champion spirit to bring home the trophy once again. KCU is proud to sponsor these back-to-back champs in their well-deserved victory!

This week, we gathered to celebrate the hard work of our amazing KCU team, marking 𝟯 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗷𝘂𝗿𝘆 (𝗟𝗧𝗜)-𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲. It’s a huge achievement and proof of everyone's commitment to safety.

Here are some key stats we’re proud of:
• 382,044 manhours LTI free
• 53,668 Take Controls
• 3,138 Hazards identified
• 1 in 3 employees has been on the project for over two years.

These contributions keep us all safe, and we couldn’t have achieved this without the strong teamwork, and safety-first mindset that defines the KCU team.

As a Silver Sponsor, the KCU team was honoured to attend the MADALAH Ball last Saturday evening. Established in 2016, this event raises funds to provide educational opportunities for Indigenous students in WA.

The event raised enough to support 52 students thanks to sponsors and everyone who attended. Nights like these truly highlight what we can achieve together in contributing to Closing the Gap.

We're a little late in sharing these photos as July was a big month for the KCU team, but here are a few images of our NAIDOC Week celebrations at Christmas Creek and Cloudbreak.

This year's theme honours the enduring strength of First Nations culture – with fire as a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The celebrations were a great success, providing an opportunity to show respect and appreciation for Indigenous culture. Over two nights, KCU family members Hayati, Garry, and Suryani Jaffrey (not to mention many volunteers) catered to the crews by preparing traditional dishes such as turtle, kangaroo, and dugong. The people on-site enjoyed the cultural experience and learning about Indigenous traditional foods. Adding to the festive atmosphere, the talented band "Puertside" played music for everyone to enjoy.

In addition to NAIDOC Week, we also attended the Pilbara Indigenous Business Network Group Tradeshow in Karratha. This event is designed to showcase Indigenous businesses and their service offerings with local businesses, industry, and local Government. The environment celebrated these Indigenous businesses and opened up networking opportunities for like-minded business owners to connect.

Abdifatah Mahmoud, one of our Polywelders from the KCU team, was recently honoured at the Fortescue head office with the prestigious Northern Spirits Award in the 'Looking out for our mates and ourselves' category.

Abdi was nominated by his KCU teammates, Karl and Denis, for a recent act of selflessness. When he learned that Tommy Bacon, the young son of a Fortescue family member, urgently needed a bone marrow donor due to leukemia, Abdi got tested and was identified as a match. He is now stepping up to donate his bone marrow to help Tommy.

This award is a testament to Abdi's character and the strong values he embodies. We are immensely proud and honoured to have someone like Abdi on our team, reminding us that we are united as one family no matter the logos on our chests.

Thank you, Abdi, for making a significant difference in the lives of others. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition! 😊

We're pleased to share that Sandy Dann, sister of our esteemed leader Hayati Jaffrey at KCU, has been honoured with induction into the WA Women's Hall of Fame. This prestigious recognition highlights Sandy's achievements and significant contributions to our community.

Despite facing challenges with limited eyesight, Sandy's determination led her to attain an Advanced Diploma in Broadcast Journalism. This milestone, coupled with her commendable 30+ years in radio, underscores her unwavering commitment to supporting our community and promoting culture.

🙌 It was great to witness the teams from Cape Dunstans and KCU gathering for morning tea to acknowledge RU OK Day. The KitKat break served as a sweet reminder to pause, connect, and ask the three simple words: "R U OK?"
