It’s amazing organisation’s such as Hunterlink, breaking the stigma and bringing mental health into everyday conversations!

Definitely worth a ready, educating ourselves is a big step towards supporting family, friends and workmates!

Work can be a source of stress and anxiety for anyone, but for those living with a mental illness, it can be even more challenging. If you have a colleague who is living with a mental illness, here are some ways you can support them in the workplace:

1. Create a safe and supportive environment: Encourage open communication and create a safe space where your colleague feels comfortable sharing their experiences and concerns.ļæ½

2. Be flexible and accommodating: Recognise that someone struggling with mental illness may need to take time off or make adjustments to their workload in order to manage their mental health. Be flexible and accommodating wherever possible.ļæ½

3. Educate yourself on their condition: Every mental illness is different, and it's important to understand the symptoms and behaviours associated with specific conditions. This will help you offer better support and be more understanding of what they're going through.ļæ½

4. Avoid stigmatising language and behaviour: Avoid using stigmatising language or behaviour that could make your work mate feel uncomfortable or ashamed. Treat them with the same respect and dignity as any other colleague.

5. Keep us in mind: If you can see your mate struggling, let them know we’re here to talk 24/7. Alternatively, if you’d like more advice on how to support someone you can also get in touch with us. Our number is 1800 554 654.

Remember, everyone deserves to feel supported in the workplace. Let's work together to create an environment that is inclusive, supportive, and understanding of mental health!
