When International Women’s Day met Climate Action Week Sydney last week, the women of SunDrive Solar made the most of it with a visit to the thoughtful exhibition “Taking Up Space” at Cicada Innovations, an initiative of SunDrive alumni Rebecca Schacht and Hertha’s Workshop, a women-led deep tech community.

The pop-up portrait gallery was a literal 'filling of the room’ and celebrated the women shaping Australia’s deep tech ecosystem, from robotics to climate innovation, from engineers to commercial teams.

TakingUpSpace shared the stories of women working at the frontier of science and technology and highlighting the importance of visibility in industries where women are still underrepresented, its mission resonated deeply: "A community where women in deep tech and robotics don’t just show up, they belong.”

It was a great opportunity for the SunDrive team to celebrate the diversity within our ecosystem and connect with the formidable talent driving and shaping solutions to the world’s most pressing problems. Congratulations and thanks to Bec and Cicada on an inspiring exhibition 💜 💚 🤍

Solar’s role in global decarbonisation is critical. Today it supplies around 2% of global energy, but that likely needs to be closer to 50%.

Australia is leading the world in solar pe*******on and generation. But globally, we’re just getting started.

SunDrive recently featured on CNN’s Tomorrow Transformed to discuss Australia’s role in advancing solar innovation and how SunDrive is scaling the next generation of high efficiency solar.

Professor Martin Green, the father of modern photovoltaics, stopped by SunDrive to see our progress firsthand. Prof Green's breakthroughs in solar cell development laid the foundation for the industry we have today, with many of today's leading solar experts either directly trained by him or shaped by his students.

For our team, Martin's tour is more than just a visit - it's a reminder of Australian ingenuity. With his efforts, Australia has led the world in solar innovation for many decades and we’re working to ensure that this continues ☀️

“There is a global race in terms of setting up onshoring of solar manufacturing all around the world, and with the right policy settings I do feel very strongly that Australia can be highly competitive."

SunDrive’s Co-founder Vince Allen on ABC‘s The Business Budget Night Special on how the $1bn Solar Sunshot program can help companies like SunDrive compete on a global scale.

A momentous day for the Australian solar industry. SunDrive’s CEO & Co-founder Vince Allen was with The Hon Anthony Albanese MP and Minister for Climate Change & Energy, The Hon Chris Bowen MP today as they announced $1bn to support Australian solar manufacturing. SunDrive also welcomes the NSW Government's commitment to support local manufacturing by leveraging government procurement through offtake agreements, which will help put NSW-made solar on the rooftops of NSW.

As the Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said, “These panels, this technology that SunDrive has developed, is the most efficient in the world. Why wouldn't you take that opportunity and pair it with AGL's vision that they have, with my government's commitment, with the New South Wales Government's commitment to manufacture more things here.”

Australia is the solar technology powerhouse of the world, and today’s announcement means that Australia can not only continue to drive world-leading innovation, but can retain the economic value of the IP, jobs, and talent that come with advanced manufacturing.

SunDrive is proud to be at the forefront of Australian solar innovation, demonstrating the immense potential for solar manufacturing in Australia.

I want a future made in Australia.

Our Solar SunShot program is a record investment in making solar panels here.

Australia already has the highest uptake of household solar panels in the world, but only a tiny fraction were made here.

We're changing that.

And we'll export solar panels to the world, creating secure jobs for the Hunter in NSW.

It's what real action on climate change looks like, made the Australian way.
