Sydney-based Arlula is on a mission to simplify how space data is managed, processed, and utilised. Recently, the company finished developing a new system to standardise satellite imagery across different types of Earth observation (EO) spacecraft.

The Automated Satellite Imaging Programmes technology helps align image datasets with industry standards of interoperability, so they can be used interchangeably among a range of scientific and commercial applications – such as agriculture, mining, and natural disaster management. By making remote sensing data easier to use, Arlula also hopes to create opportunities for new applications and businesses to engage EO technology, increasing its global uptake.

Meanwhile, Arlula's interoperable data offerings are enhancing its machine learning and AI models through more consistent and optimised inputs.

The project was supported by our Moon to Mars Supply Chain program, which helps deliver competitive Australian products into global space supply chains.

The Mackenzie River. North America's largest northward-flowing river!💧

The Mackenzie River, along with the Slave, Peace, and Finlay rivers, forms part of Canada's longest river system.

Thanks to the power of satellite imagery, we can observe the Mackenzie River from above. This technology allows us to note critical changes, such as the gradual melting of ice (visible as specks of white) in the river. 🧊

Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida.🚀🛰️
NASA's most famous center, the Kennedy Space Center (KSC), is located in Flordia. It covers over 66 square miles (170 square kilometers) and holds about 20 percent of the agency's constructed assets.

Using satellite imagery, we can monitor KSC from above and its four launchpads near the coastline.

Looking Over Canada! 🛰️🌏
Long Point, a sand spit and small community in Norfolk County, Ontario, Canada, stretches about 40 kilometers (25 mi) along Lake Erie's north shore. Its environmental formation is an example of sand dune and sand-spit formation within the Great Lakes area, representing the largest erosion deposit formation in the region.

You'll notice the large swirls around Long Point, which are sediment in the ocean. This results from environmental factors, such as wind-driven waves that accumulate water along the shore and stir up limestone sediments from the relatively shallow lake bottom.

Greenland from above!🌏🛰️

During mid-summer annually, the Greenland Ice Sheet showcases vibrant blue meltwater lakes, or melt ponds, which store significant fresh water throughout the season, playing a crucial role in its surface hydrology.

This satellite imagery captures the environmental landscape of Greenlands Ice Sheets. Revealing the presence of these lakes the presence of these lakes near Greenland's west coast.

Exploring Mount Keith Mine, Western Australia. ⚒️🌏

Located in Western Australia, Mount Keith Mine stands as an open pit nickel mine managed by BHP and forms a part of its Nickel West operations. Originally established in 1995 by WMC Resources, it shifted ownership to BHP in 2005. Situated approximately 85 kilometers north of Wiluna, the mine serves as a significant landmark in the region.

Here you can see Mount Keith Mine to the left as well as Mount Keith Tailing Storage facility on the right. 🛰️

Rhodes from above! 🌏🛰️

Rhodes is the largest island in the Greek Dodecanese chain. It spans approximately 77 kilometers from northeast to southwest and has the highest point, Mount Attavyros, which towers 1,200 meters above sea level.

Its environment is abundant with vegetation that covers much of Rhodes's geographical landscape. Geological research, dating back to the 1850s, has been crucial in understanding Rhodes' history and structure, with satellite imagery like the one above aiding modern geologists in their studies.

Exploring the largest uninhabited island in the world. 🌎

Belonging to the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, Devon Island is the largest uninhabited island (no permanent residents), on Earth. This is due to its ground remaining frozen for almost an entire year. For a brief period in the year (45-50 days), the island's landscape is snow-free, and its geographical environment is similar to a barren wasteland. Many researchers and scientists often equate Devon Island's environment to Mars's.🚀

Using high-res satellite imagery, we can capture Devon Island in a new light, monitoring its shifting geographical landscapes and environment.
