Enabling energy freedom and flexibility with solar battery for more control over your home.

05/08/2026

Is getting a solar battery this size worth it?

The answer is: for some people… it’s actually not.

If you’ve got a low monthly electricity bill, the payback period often doesn’t justify the investment.

A battery isn’t something you buy because everyone else is. It’s something you buy because it solves a specific problem.

The right system depends on:
• Your electricity usage
• When you use your power
• Whether you already have solar
• Your electricity tariff
• Whether backup power is important to you

That’s why every home should be assessed individually before recommending a battery.

The goal isn’t to sell the biggest system. It’s to help you make the right decision for your home.

If you’ve spent thousands on a battery, you need to know what this mode does.

🔋 Part 2: Backup Mode

Most people think a battery is just there to reduce power bills.

But Backup Mode has a different priority.

Instead of using as much battery energy as possible each day, the system keeps a reserve ready for a blackout.

Here’s the interesting part:

⚡ If the grid goes down and then comes back on, the battery will often force charge from every available source — solar and even the grid if required.

Why?

Because the system assumes another outage could happen and wants to get your backup capacity restored as quickly as possible.

This means you may see the battery charging when you weren’t expecting it, but it’s doing exactly what it was designed to do.

The goal isn’t maximum savings.

The goal is keeping the lights on when the grid can’t.

Follow for Part 3.

If you’ve spent thousands on a home battery, you need to know what this mode does.

🔋 Part 1: Self Consumption Mode

This is the most common battery setting and it’s designed to help you buy less power from the grid.

Here’s how it works:

☀️ During the day, your solar powers the home first.
🔋 Any excess solar charges the battery.
🌙 At night, the battery discharges to run your home before importing power from the grid.

The goal is simple: use more of your own solar and less expensive grid electricity.

For many homeowners, this is the setting that delivers the biggest reduction in power bills.

But depending on your goals, it may not be the best mode for your home.

Follow along for Part 2 where I’ll explain another battery mode that most homeowners don’t even know exists.

Another homeowner taking control of their energy with a Sigenergy SigenStor battery system.

Rather than exporting excess solar energy back to the grid for a few cents, this system stores it for when it’s needed most — powering the home through the evening, reducing electricity bills, and providing backup power protection during blackouts.

System Highlights:
🔋 Sigenergy SigenStor Battery System
⚡ Smart energy management and monitoring
🏠 Backup power capability
📈 Increased solar self-consumption
🚗 EV charger ready

The goal isn’t just lower power bills. It’s greater control, resilience, and energy independence.

Where can you actually install a home battery?

Most homeowners think it has to go in the garage. That’s not always the case.

Depending on the battery system, it may be suitable for installation in garages, on external walls, alongside the home, or in dedicated utility areas. The right location comes down to factors like safety clearances, weather exposure, accessibility, aesthetics, and how the rest of the energy system is designed.

The best battery location isn’t always the most obvious one.

Every property is different, which is why system design matters just as much as the battery itself.

Thinking about a battery for your home? Make sure the location is considered before installation day.

How important is backup performance during a blackout?

This GoodWe ESA system switched over so fast that the TV didn’t even flicker.

With a transfer time of less than 4 milliseconds, it’s approaching UPS-level performance, helping keep essential circuits running seamlessly when the grid goes down.

The reality is that not all battery systems are created equal. Battery capacity matters, but so does backup design, inverter performance, and how the system is configured.

If backup power is one of your priorities, make sure you’re looking beyond just the battery size.
