Still living with old halogen lights? 💡

An LED upgrade can improve the light in the room, reduce energy use and make ongoing maintenance easier.

But the right solution still depends on the existing fittings, ceiling access, room layout and switching. We inspect what’s already there before recommending or pricing the work.

As mentioned in the video, we’re also offering a free switchboard safety inspection this month when we’re out helping with your lighting.

Want your lighting assessed? Send us your suburb, photos of the rooms and a photo of the current fittings.

Renovating? The electrician should be involved before the walls close.

At this Bonnyrigg Heights garage conversion, the homeowners brought us in early enough to plan the new lighting and appliance circuits while the cable routes were still accessible.

That gave us a practical route back to the switchboard before the next finishes went in.

If you’re planning a renovation, send us your suburb, a few photos and a quick description of what you’re changing. We’ll tell you what should be assessed before the build schedule is locked in.

A good electrician shouldn’t leave you guessing. ⚡

For us, the job isn’t just about turning up, completing the electrical work and moving on to the next one.

We want the homeowner to understand what we’ve found, what we’re recommending and what’s actually been done in their home.

That means taking the time to explain the work, answer questions, properly test what we’ve completed and leave the customer feeling confident, not confused.

These photos are from a recent residential job in Bossley Park.

If you’re looking for an electrician who’ll take the time to properly assess the job and explain your options clearly, M & J Electrical Works services homes throughout Western Sydney.

How often should you have your home’s electrical system checked? ⚡

It’s a question this homeowner asked us after we completed their switchboard upgrade in Bossley Park.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. The age and condition of the electrical installation, previous work and any warning signs around the home all need to be considered.

On an older property like this, we recommend keeping on top of the electrical installation rather than waiting until something stops working.

Older power points, switches, wiring and switchboards can all deteriorate over time, and problems aren’t always obvious to the homeowner.

Ever wondered what the surge protector in your switchboard actually does? ⚡

We recently upgraded the switchboard at this home in Bossley Park, and the homeowner had a great question about the new surge protection.

A surge protection device is designed to help protect electrical equipment in the home from damaging voltage surges.

Just as importantly, we don’t want to install a new switchboard and leave without the homeowner understanding what’s actually been installed.

That’s why we take the time to walk our customers through the work and answer their questions before we leave.

A faulty cooktop circuit led us to something much more important. ⚡

We were called to this home in Bossley Park after the cooktop suddenly lost power.

We traced the immediate problem to a faulty breaker, but once we inspected the switchboard we found the circuits didn’t have safety-switch protection.

Rather than just fixing the one fault and walking away, we spoke with the homeowners about the condition of the board and upgraded the protection so they could feel confident in their home’s electrical system.

Sometimes the problem you notice isn’t the only thing worth checking.

Finishing the electrical work is only part of the job. ⚡

Before we leave, we thoroughly test the circuits we’ve worked on, record the results and explain everything to the homeowner so they know exactly what’s been done.

Because you shouldn’t have to just take an electrician’s word for it.

You should know your electrical work has been tested properly, understand what was completed and feel confident everything is operating safely.

That’s how we like to leave every home.

📍 This one was in Bossley Park.

Would you expect your electrician to provide this level of testing and explanation?

Power keeps tripping at home? Don’t keep forcing the switch back on. ⚡

You can try resetting it once. If it trips again, unplug the appliances connected to that circuit and try once more.

If it still won’t stay on, leave it off. The safety switch may be doing exactly what it was designed to do…protecting you from an electrical fault.

Repeated tripping can be caused by an appliance, damaged wiring, moisture or another fault that needs proper testing.

Save this video so you know what to do next time…and send it to someone who always gets nominated to “fix the power.” 😅

One thing we never skip is testing.

Anyone can replace electrical equipment, but making sure it’s operating safely before we leave is just as important.

Every job finishes with testing, verification and making sure everything is working exactly as it should.

It’s not always the part homeowners see, but it’s one of the most important parts of the job.

If you’re looking for an electrician who takes the time to do things properly, we’d love to help.
