Marine biofuel is changing the conversation around low-emission shipping.

But the future of maritime sustainability is not only about new vessels. It is also about how existing commercial vessels are maintained, repaired, upgraded, and supported.

For vessel owners, fleet operators, and marine engineers, lower-emission shipping raises practical questions around vessel maintenance, fuel system readiness, engine condition, inspection schedules, safety controls, and operational reliability.

AIS Marine Group supports commercial vessels across Australia with practical marine services, including ship repair, vessel maintenance, welding, fabrication, structural repair, fleet support, and marine engineering support.

The future of shipping depends on vessels that are safe, reliable, and ready for changing industry expectations.

Speak with AIS Marine Group about practical vessel support for operational and sustainability goals.

Is your vessel inspection-ready?

AMSA’s National Compliance Plan 2025–26 highlights key compliance focus areas for vessels operating in Australian waters, including:

⚓ Vessel maintenance
⚓ Pilot ladder safety
⚓ Cargo securing
⚓ Pollution prevention
⚓ Safety Management Systems
⚓ Domestic vessel safety

For vessel owners, operators and marine managers, compliance is more than paperwork. It is about safety, reliability, operational readiness and reducing the risk of costly downtime.

At AIS Marine, we support commercial vessels with ship repair, vessel maintenance, technical marine services and inspection support across Australia.

That’s us.

Most engine failures don't announce themselves.

They show up at 2am. In the middle of a charter. When the vessel is already behind schedule and the pressure is on everyone.

This is one of our cylinder liner overhauls on a main propulsion marine diesel engine.

We've carried out this work across bulk carriers, tugboats, offshore support vessels, and everything in between - in engine rooms that weren't built for comfort, under timelines that had no tolerance for error.

We don't guess. We don't improvise. We assess, we plan, and we execute.

Because when a vessel is down, every hour has a number on it.

The teams that call us already know this.

If you operate vessels in Australian waters, you should know who to call before you need to make that call.

That's us.

Australia's official shipping register lists 53 trading vessels.

Industry analysis puts the number of Australian-controlled ocean-going commercial vessels significantly lower once support craft, coastal ferries and non-commercial vessels are stripped out.

Here's what that breakdown actually looks like. ↓

The trend line tells the story clearly.

Since 2002, Australian-registered deadweight tonnage has declined sharply. Over the same period, foreign-flagged shipping servicing Australian trade has grown substantially.

Meanwhile, Australia currently has no major Australian-flagged international fuel tanker fleet. This is a country that relies on sea transport for 99% of its traded goods by volume.

The government recognises the problem.

The Strategic Fleet initiative is underway. Up to 12 Australian-flagged, privately operated vessels will be available for national use in times of need. The 2026 National Defence Strategy commits $425 billion over a decade, with maritime sovereignty as a central pillar.

That's the right direction.

But vessels without local repair and maintenance infrastructure aren't resilient. They're just foreign-dependent at a different stage of the supply chain.

Building sovereign maritime capability means building the support network too.

Swipe through for the full breakdown ↓

What do you think is the biggest operational gap in Australia's maritime resilience right now?

Fire safety on commercial vessels is not optional. It is a compliance requirement.

CO₂ fire suppression systems play a critical role in protecting engine rooms and enclosed machinery spaces from catastrophic fire events. However, without regular inspection and testing, system reliability cannot be guaranteed.

At AIS Marine, we conduct CO₂ system inspections on commercial vessels in alignment with AMSA requirements, ensuring your fixed fire suppression system remains compliant, operational, and ready when it matters most.

Our inspections cover system integrity, cylinder condition, discharge lines, control mechanisms, and certification requirements in accordance with Australian maritime safety standards.

For vessel operators, ship managers, and fleet owners, proactive compliance reduces risk, protects crew safety, and prevents costly downtime.

If your vessel’s CO₂ system inspection is due, speak with the team at AIS Marine.

Funnel deck repairs form an essential part of ship structural maintenance, particularly in areas exposed to extreme heat, exhaust discharge, vibration, and harsh marine conditions. The funnel deck, positioned around the vessel’s exhaust stack, endures constant thermal stress and environmental exposure, making it one of the more demanding sections of a ship’s superstructure to maintain.

Maintaining structural integrity in this zone is critical for vessel safety, operational reliability, and long-term asset performance. Proper structural intervention ensures the superstructure remains compliant with marine standards while protecting surrounding systems from progressive deterioration.

This completed Funnel Deck Repair – Ship Structural Works project highlights AIS Marine’s capability in delivering precision-driven structural repairs within complex vessel environments.

At AIS Marine Australia, we specialise in comprehensive ship structural repairs, superstructure restoration, and marine steel works, supporting commercial vessels across Australia with high-quality workmanship and industry-compliant solutions.
