Not all steel grating is the same. The right choice comes down to three simple questions. How much load does it need to carry? How far does it span? And does it need to be heel safe for pedestrians?
Australian Standards set the benchmarks. AS 1657 covers grating for walkways, platforms and stairways, and AS 1170.1 sets the design loads for different areas, from standard walkways through to public spaces and plant rooms carrying much heavier loads. Choose grating that doesn't meet the load your area demands and you're looking at compliance gaps and early replacement.
