Italian underwater defence specialist DRASS delivered two DS8 Swimmer Delivery Vehicles to Indonesia's Ministry of Defence on February 26, marking Phase 1 of an ambitious naval special operations modernization program. The 9-meter, 3.8-ton submersibles carry two crew and six combat divers to depths of 30 meters across 60 nautical miles integrating autonomous guidance, optronic periscope suites, and 250-liter sealed payload containers for special equipment. Validated through comprehensive at-sea trials, the DS8 fleet will complement KOPASKA's existing Swedish SEAL Carrier SDVs, with DRASS additionally contracted to construct six midget submarines worth €480 million.
