What an incredible experience at the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) 2025 in Sydney! 🚀

RMIT HIVE had the opportunity to connect with leaders from across Australia’s space industry and network with other university rocketry teams through the Rocketry Forum hosted by the University of Sydney, AIAA, AYAA, and ARSTN. Sharing knowledge, ideas, and a collective passion for advancing student-led aerospace innovation.

We were especially thrilled to have Legacy featured at the AIAA stand, and proud to see our Hive members Andy and Tamzin present their research papers, representing RMIT on the international stage. 🌏✨

🚀 RMIT has officially competed in the International Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) for the first time in the club's history! 🇺🇸🌎🔥

Our IREC team was awarded AIAA's Gil Moore award for innovation. And despite many engineering challenges on the launch days and an unfortunate suboptimal maximum flight altitude, which omitted us from flight performance scoring completely, we scored 59th out of approximately 150 teams

LEGACY WAS GO FOR LAUNCH. On 04/05/2025, RMIT’s first hybrid rocket hit 8,200 ft, resolving past fuelling issues and validating our custom Australis flight computer. We nailed a full static fill test, ran two hybrid fills in one day, and maintained flawless data connection throughout flight. Recovery taught us a new lesson—chute anomaly caused slight internal damage, but Legacy lives on as legacy awaits next launch to be even stronger and better.

🚀 We're thrilled to announce that RMIT High Velocity has a new sponsor Robinson Aerospace Systems who have generously provided us with a RASCUBE V2, which will be flying aboard Legacy, our upcoming hybrid-powered launch vehicle!

Assembling the RASCUBE has been a rewarding experience for the team. The attention to detail in the packaging, instruction manual, and the 1U payload itself showcases the quality and thought put into its design. We highly recommend working with it if you ever get the chance!

Legacy represents a huge step forward for HIVE, and we're excited to test a wide range of technologies during our upcoming launches including our fully custom SRAD avionics suite, Ground Service Equipment, and Ground Control Station.

It’s incredible to reflect on how far we’ve come from a small student rocketry team to building many of the systems needed for a launch program of this scale, all within just over a year. We can’t wait to see the RASCUBE V2 fly and share what we learn from this mission!

Last week, the HIVE Club had the honour of presenting at The Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School, sharing our passion for rocketry with an amazing group of students! 💡💫 From our past successes to future missions, we explored the exciting world of aerospace and engaged with the future women in STEM.

It was inspiring to see so much curiosity and enthusiasm and we look forward to seeing the amazing successes these Mac.Robbians have in store!!

🚀 Big strides for RMIT HIVE’s Legacy Rocket Program! 🚀

Over the last two weeks, we’ve made significant progress in bringing our rocket to life! Our team has been hard at work, with body tubes now in production and the coupler section expertly machined at RMIT’s Advanced Manufacturing Precinct.

One of the most exciting milestones? Our nose cone, created using a novel compression molding technique—pushing the boundaries of student-led aerospace innovation.

This project is a testament to the dedication of our team and the amazing facilities at RMIT. As we gear up for our early March launch in White Cliffs, NSW, with Endeavour Aerospace, we couldn’t be more thrilled to see our work take flight.

A special thanks to Tickford Engineering for helping us with the curing of our composite tubing!

Congratulations to Brodie for gaining your L2 certification! 🎉
This was our first L2 Certification flight of the year! Beautiful flight and recovery on the back of him getting his L1 certification just a few weeks prior 😱
Brodie is heading up our structures team on the Aurora V project, our competition rocket that will be taking to the skies in the Australian Universities Rocket Competition (AURC).
