What an amazing day. Started of with a traditional smoking ceremony led by Uncle Dixie who welcomed me to country amongst the entire class. It was SO special. He spoke in Yorta language about the course and when I asked how he described a drone he told me he used two words. "Buzz - Wing". How cool is that!!! He asked me what country I grew up in (Central Tablelands) and he told stories of other elders he knew from my home country. I told him of my work in the Cape teaching kids to place music and I relayed some of the stories the Elders had shared with me.
The students are all adults (Park Rangers etc) and I listened to them describe the many ways they hope to use their flying skills to care for the land.
It was a shared spiritual moment and when we went into the classroom we were all ready to learn with a strong sense of
purpose and conviction.
I bloody love my job!
