Late last month, ABC Bullion General Manager Jordan Eliseo attended Parliament House in Darwin to celebrate the 2026 Lexus Melbourne Cup—and the Northern Territory gold that brought it to life 🏆

The ABC Bullion gold used in the 2026 Lexus Melbourne Cup was sourced entirely from Newmont's Tanami operation in the Northern Territory, a source of great ‘Territory pride.’

Alongside Newmont's Nick Hill, Jordan joined industry leaders, government representatives and racing legends to mark this milestone.

The event formed part of the Cup’s annual journey across the globe as part of the Victorian Racing Club’s Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour. This year, the Cup will visit 36 destinations, uniting communities far and wide.

Last week, ABC Refinery was pleased to host students from the AusIMM UNSW Student Chapter, in partnership with the program’s Gold Sponsor, Newmont Corporation, for an exclusive tour of our facilities.

The visit offered students a unique behind-the-scenes perspective on the precious metals journey, providing valuable insight into the refining process and the expertise, innovation and precision that underpin our operations.

The experience concluded at the ABC Bullion Global Flagship in Martin Place, where Newmont’s Brooke Adamson was joined by ABC Bullion's Jordan Eliseo and Dominic Cantarella to share their industry insight. Students enjoyed the opportunity to connect with industry leaders and gain valuable commercial perspectives on the resources sector.

We are proud to support the development of emerging industry talent and foster the communication between students and professionals across the precious metals industry.

A journey thousands of years in the making, the gold for the 2026 Melbourne Cup has travelled over 2,500 kilometres from the Red Centre to the heart of Australian gold refining, ABC Refinery.

There, it is transformed into pure 18-carat ABC Bullion Gold, before the artisans at W.J. Sanders—with an unparalleled dedication to their craft—breathe life into the Cup.

For more than a decade, the Melbourne Cup has been handmade by artisan goldsmiths W.J. Sanders, the Sydney-based sister company to ABC Bullion, Australia’s leading precious metals specialist and the official manufacturer of the Lexus Melbourne Cup trophy.

Each is hand forged by W.J. Sanders craftspeople with Australian ABC Bullion precious metals, to exacting VRC standards—the continuation of a legacy steeped in excellence.

Affectionately known as the ‘Loving Cup’ for its iconic tri-handled design symbolising unity between jockey, trainer and owner, the Melbourne Cup is often touted as the ‘People’s Cup’ for its ability to bring Australians together.

The 2026 Cup contains 1.8kg of 18-carat yellow gold, equivalent to nearly 60 ounces of pure precious metal. Comprising 44 individually shaped components, the Cup is a symbol of craftsmanship, excellence and national pride—and for the first time, is valued at over $1 million.
