Over the past few weeks we’ve been caretaking a complete refurbishment of a terrace house in central Sydney — a little different to our usual Northern Beaches work, but the fundamentals don’t change.

As is usually the case there's an outdated floor plan, and a home that no longer fits the way its owners live.

Now that the owner-builders are back from overseas, we’re handed her back for the next phase. We can’t wait to see how it all unfolds for this beautiful couple.

The story for this home is just getting started again.🎉

In this case the client wanted someone to take care of all the details and to guide them through. The end goal was a home that would suit multiple generations - An aging parent, and two adult children.

By connecting it to the lower living area and adding a generous deck, it became a cozy retreat that opens out to a secluded, bird-filled outlook. Quiet. Grounded. Peaceful.

You don’t need a survey plan to see this Bayview site is steep — but it’s full of opportunity.

The brief is to keep the existing 1950s beach cottage, with its north-facing Pittwater views, and to design and build a second home higher up the hill, looking straight down the water.

Planning controls mean we need to design small, smart and intentional.
And honestly, that’s often where the best ideas come from. We're fitting a double garage, 4 bedrooms and a swimming pool on a small footprint. This home will be built to meet the needs of a busy family, with 3 different living zones to incorporate intergenerational needs for both privacy and connection.

It’s a challenging canvas, no doubt.
But some of the best homes start exactly this way.

From 2 levels to 5 levels. Just like that! (Not really)

Completed in 2025, this was a full rebuild for a husband and wife who owned businesses on the Northern Beaches.

Built on a steep site in the early 60s, the home no longer worked for them as current owners. They needed multi-generational living with the ability to have privacy and also connect with each other. They knew it was the place they wanted to retire and moving wasn't an option.

The home started as a 2-level home and became a thoughtfully designed 5-level residence:
✅A parents’ retreat at the top
✅Living spaces anchored in the middle
✅A dedicated bedroom for an elderly parent and
✅adult children one level below
✅A gym on the lowest level

When a renovation is done right, it grows with the family.
