Douglas Powell is probably one of the most prolific contributors to public food safety in the world. He created "Barf Blog" and is still a regular social media contributor about food poisoning outbreaks and risks.

There is probably nothing the Douglas doesn't know about public food poisoning, and so I thought I would put him to the test.

In today's episode I say a food and Douglas explains the risk (the theory) and then a major food poisoning outbreak because of it (the practice).

But there is one amazing answer that should really help shape how we talk about food poisoning.

The links are in the notes.

And now let's get super real about this - what is the worst food poisoning outbreak you have seen, or what is the worst food poisoning you have experienced?

Yes, I would love some great stories for the podcast, but the truth is that people don't care about food safety but they really care about food poisoning. It is by having and sharing the "horror stories" that you can then share the lesson.

And next week we return with part 2 "why Barf Blog"?

This episode of EHO Knows is a "must watch" for everyone.

If there was ever a competition for the ultimate food poisoning type of food, sushi would have to be on the short list. It contains raw fish, rice, and other culprits, combined with being left out at room temperature and often consumed hours later.

This episode is how Kylie D'Alton and her team at Waverley council really took action, the obstacles they faced, and the amazing outcome they achieved.

Is sushi a risk in your area? What are you doing about it?
And what is the ultimate food poisoning type of food?

Last week I had the honour of having an episode of EHO Knows launch at the The New Zealand Institute of Environmental Health (NZIEH) conference.

And what a ripper of an episode. Why is it safe to bury food in a hole and cook it, but when westerners do it, food poisoning becomes a more likely risk?

Monique Goodhew takes us through traditional Maori food safety and the challenges of modern events.

I got to ask all the politically incorrect questions and Monique did an excellent job with a foot in both camps.

And a big thank you for regular guest Tanya Morrison for inviting me.

See the comments for links.

And please share or comment. The podcast is only being promoted by word of mouth!

What would a trilogy be without a third part?

This time we see another very different response to COVID. What happens when COVID enters a remote village for the first time once we know how it spreads and how to manage it?

Thank you to Dr. Stephanie Fletcher-Lartey for the behind the scenes glimpse into the national and international discussions.

What was your experience? As an EHO, what were the challenges that you faced?

We are now probably far enough away from COVID to talk about it again!

OK, this episode really surprised me. It's a ripping yarn with Dr Stephanie Fletcher-Lartey sharing her experience about COVID. I really tried to prod her to make some political assessment and she so diplomatically handled it, but...
..this is the only episode where the guest has asked for content to be removed.

One joke we have now beeped out. Enjoy trying to guess what we cut.

Another comment we totally cut.

Welcome to the (literally) politically correct edition of EHO Knows.

Want to have an insight into 3 totally different responses to COVID?

We run the "EHO Knows" podcast, and while aimed at Environmental Health Officers, the next 3 episode provide a fascinating insight behind the scenes with Dr Stephanie Fletcher-Lartey.

The first episode starts in the Caribbean as it goes into total lockdown but then is forced to quickly open back up again.
