Great news!
MIRANDA - 24/7 Veterinary Hospital to open within months.
A new Veterinary Hospital is due to open within months, offering Shire residents a first in 24 hour, 7 days a week care for their furry pet.
The Advanced Treatment Centre (ATC) will be operated by Veterinary Specialists of Sydney (VSOS), specialists who are currently a mobile surgical service who travel to their clients local vet to assist their pet.
However now, they'll be setting up a permanent clinic here in the Sutherland Shire on a 24 hour basis, 7 days a week, saving local residents the hassle of having to travel to existing 24 hour clinics well outside of the area.
Under the approved $2.1 million plans, ATC will move into the existing 106 Parraweena Road, Miranda building that is currently housed by Colorfen Constructions.
Situated across from IGA and next to Oz Education & Gold's Gym, the clinic will provide an extended range of services.
''Locals can expect two things, both an emergency centre as well as a specialist veterinary referral hospital which we are calling an 'advanced treatment centre'', said owner and founder of Veterinary Specialists of Sydney, Dr Andrew Levien.
''We will be staffed 24/7 by veterinarians and nurses providing care for pets in the shire. Emergency centres such as ours accept referrals from local smaller hospitals, and walk-ins, for pets having an emergency such as seizures or hit by motor vehicles
''In terms of specialist care, we will be staffed by specialist veterinarians who have undergone additional training and will be treating complex medical and surgical problems usually by referral
''Our hospital will have the latest technology not normally found in local vet hospitals such as an MRI for planning spinal surgery, and a CT scanner for diagnosis and managing complicated cases. Similarly we will have minimally invasive equipment so that we can place stents just like it is done in humans.'' he ended.
Development plans include consulting rooms, an emergency theatre, laboratory, imaging equipment, animal holding areas and pharmacy will also be available from the get go.
The ATC will be run by a team that has accumulated experience across 3 continents, Australia, United Kingdom and the Unites States of America and conducted thousands of operations involving small animals.
Dr Levien told Shire News he expects to have the state-of-the-art facility up and running by June this year.
