Major Update 🫶🫶
After 8+ years of blood, sweat and countless 3am nights, I’ve had to make one of the toughest calls yet 😪😪
Chris here: the head honcho at Platinum Potions. No polished corporate fluff, just the raw truth from me.
TL;DR version: On 27th September, I’ll be closing our public showroom doors for good (online store still remains).
The long version: Before anyone starts losing their minds, spreading rumours, or keyboard-wrangling from the sidelines, no, I’m not shutting Platinum Potions down. Far from it. I’m actually going full throttle. Our online store is running as usual, our resellers here and overseas are stronger than ever, and I’m gearing up for the next stage of growth.
For those who don’t know: I run Platinum Potions end-to-end. Chemistry, R&D, mixing, bottling, labelling, packing, shipping, customer emails, supplier wrangling, photography, editing, graphics, socials, most of it is all me. On busy days and events, my mates jump in and help when it matters most. And yep, about 70% of those dodgy handwritten thank-you notes on invoices? Me: guilty as charged.
The showroom’s been a massive part of this journey. Hundreds of customers and detailing business owners have walked through, sniffing and sampling everything we’ve got every single year. Strong friendships and connections were built in that little room. But the time has come to close that chapter 🥲🥲
So why close the showroom?
The industry’s shifting, and since launching our first ceramic coating, detailers and business owners keep asking for face-to-face time with the “mad scientist” behind the formulas and the person who wrote the application guide (both me). They want more coatings, more innovation, more one-on-one time. To make that happen, I need flexibility, time on the road, and more space here for manufacturing and private label projects. That showroom floor space is about to become production lines.

Some will say, “Just move into a bigger warehouse.” Or, “Just hire more staff”… Sure, let me just wave a magic wand while I’m at it 🤣. If only it were that simple. I’ve sunk over 200k into this facility: climate control, filtration, dust management, plumbing, electrical, security, compliance, safety, the works (not including the cost of the actual machinery we own). Replicating it somewhere else? Well over double. And with Sydney rents going bat-sh*t crazy, it makes zero sense.
As for hiring: if you’re a small business owner, you already know the struggles. If you’re not, here’s the short version: good help is hard to find, TikTok brain-rot is real, and I’m not playing recruitment roulette 🙃
Now here’s the raw truth: this grind has taken its toll on me. Too many 3am nights. Running on 4-hours sleep. Eating crap between jobs. Forgetting what weekends even feel like. Eight years of that catches up. And I need to look after myself, get fit, eat properly, spend time with family and mates. Because if I burn out, there is no Platinum Potions.
So closing the showroom isn’t the end. It’s a pivot. It’s me protecting my health, protecting this business, and doubling down on what matters: putting world-class products into the hands of people everywhere, not just Australia 😇
Platinum Potions isn’t slowing down. It’s going full throttle. Our chemistry hasn’t just raised the bar, it’s setting industry standards that actually matter.
To everyone, and I mean everyone who’s supported me and this brand, anywhere in between from day one or just from today, thank you. Truly. I wouldn’t be here without you.

At the end of the day, Platinum Potions has never been about flashy showrooms, corporate fluff, or marketing gimmicks. It’s always been and always will be just real love and passion for formulating the best detailing chemicals for us car and bike lovers to enjoy.
