Gorgeous Bathroom april 24
All houses have their idiosyncrasies, degrees of out of straight and square.
The older a house is the more likely there is damage and the more out of shape
Then there is the previous work that may have fixed a particular issue but over time has affected the rest of the house.
To build this bathroom in a house of more than 120 years, originally probably built as a two room dwelling then had additions we needed to work with the houses ‘idiosyncrasies’ to make the space as straight square and level as needed.
The house had been partially restumped at different times while some of the original wooden stumps remained but weren’t supporting the house any longer.
The house had been built when material was in short supply and codes were different, so the floor structure needed to be made stronger
Our aim was to do enough to be able to build a beautiful bathroom.
but not create problems for future work.
The big format tiles look great.
They were a challenge but Danny worked wonders, every tile was cut, very stressful.
Big thanks to Peter Church for the plumbing and consultations re potentially lowering the floor.
Greg Sutton for finding elegant solutions for the electrical work
Danny Jovanovic for the fantastic tiling.
George for his excellent carpentry
Felicity and Nigel for the design both plans and ongoing discussions and being great to work with (and getting a team together to take the bath outside).
