Visitors to Temora Shire Council’s Administration Building may notice the flags flying at half mast today as a mark of respect following the passing of His Majesty King Harald V of Norway.

King Harald, who passed away at the age of 89, was Norway’s Head of State, reigning from 1991 until his death on August 28, 2026.

A digital Book of Condolences has also been established by the Royal Palace and will shortly be available in English as well as in Norwegian. You can find the digital Book of Condolences at bit.ly/4gFFDpB

Council joins communities across Australia in respectfully acknowledging the passing of His Majesty King Harald V and extends its condolences to the people of Norway and the Norwegian Royal Family.

Under Australian flag protocol, the Australian National Flag may be flown at half mast following the death of the Head of State of a country with which Australia has diplomatic relations, generally on the day of the funeral or as directed by the Australian Government.

The Commonwealth Flag Network has invited organisations across Australia to fly flags at half mast today in recognition of King Harald’s passing.

Temora Shire Council observes the flag protocols recommended by the Commonwealth Flag Network, in accordance with Council’s adopted Flag Protocols Policy.

Goldenfields Water advises that weekend works will be undertaken to replace hydrants located in Little Baker Street, Temora.

Works will take place on Saturday 12th September & Sunday 13th September, with construction occurring each day between 1pm-4pm.

Citizen of the Year Nominations Now Open! 🏆

Do you know someone who goes above and beyond for our community? Or a local event that has brought people together and made a real difference?

The Temora Shire Australia Day Council is calling on residents, community groups and businesses to nominate worthy individuals and community events for the 2026/2027 Australia Day Awards.

Awards include:

🌟 Temora Shire Citizen of the Year – 19 years and over
🌟 Temora Shire Young Citizen of the Year – 18 years and under
🌟 Temora Shire Event of the Year

Nominees must have demonstrated community involvement, and nominations should provide plenty of detail about why the individual or event deserves to be recognised.

📅 Nominations close: Friday, 6 November 2026 at 4pm

Every Conversation Matters: Shifting Conversation to Action

Temora Shire Council is proud to support National Child Protection Week, joining communities across Australia in recognising the importance of creating safe, supportive environments where children can thrive.

Talking about child safety matters. Conversations can build understanding, challenge assumptions and help us recognise how we can better support children and families.

But conversation is just the beginning. Real change happens when we turn those conversations into action.

This National Child Protection Week, we’re encouraged to think about the practical steps we can all take to help children feel heard, valued, safe and supported.

Whether it’s creating a safe space for a child to speak, checking in with a family who may need support, learning how to recognise when something may not be right, or simply making time to listen — every action can make a difference.

While National Child Protection Week provides an important opportunity to start these conversations, building safe and supportive communities is something we can all contribute to throughout the year.

Together, we can help build a community where every child experiences real safety, care and protection. 💛

Securing Our Future: Community consultation complete

Temora Shire Council has completed its formal community consultation on the proposed Special Rate Variation (SRV), with 659 people sharing their views on the future of the Shire.

Council has now brought together the feedback received through the consultation in the Securing Our Future: Community Engagement Report.

📌 What happens next?
The report will be considered by the Assets and Operations Committee on 8 September, before being considered at the 17 September Council meeting.

👉 No decision on whether to apply for an SRV will be made at the September Council meeting.

Councillors will use the period between September and November to consider the engagement findings, feedback received and the financial information available to Council.

A decision on whether to proceed with an application to IPART is expected to be considered at the November 2026 Council meeting.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of celebrating a special milestone as Khushi and Steffens Toeppich officially became Australian citizens at a naturalisation ceremony.

Becoming an Australian citizen is a significant moment — marking a new chapter and a commitment to being part of our community and our nation.

We extend our congratulations and wish them both all the best as they begin this exciting new chapter.

Yellow Bloom Road is officially open! 💛🌼

The sea of gold has arrived in Temora, and as part of the Canola Trail, you can now experience our region’s iconic canola bloom up close at Lake Centenary! 🌱🌼

Created in partnership with FarmLink Research, Yellow Bloom Road gives locals and visitors the chance to walk, ride and capture the beauty of a flowering canola field without entering private farmland.

It’s a unique way to experience one of the Riverina’s most iconic sights, while helping protect the integrity of surrounding farming operations through respectful access and public awareness.

Running from 3 September to 4 October, Yellow Bloom Road is free and open daily at Lake Centenary, 420 Goldfields Way, Temora.

So grab your camera, bring the family and take a stroll through the gold! 📸💛
