Bikes for Good in Derwent Park has been broken into several times, with tools and bikes stolen on each occasion.
The shop sells refurbished and new bikes, while also providing servicing and repairs. Every dollar it earns helps fund the Tasmanian Bike Collective, which runs bike workshops in Risdon Vale and the Huon Valley. There, young people learn practical skills by stripping bikes down and rebuilding them. Many say it's the place where they feel most engaged, confident and supported.
When the shop loses bikes and equipment, it goes beyond the cost of replacing them. It affects the funding that helps keep those workshops running.
On Friday afternoon, our Hobart team rolled up their sleeves to help. They installed steel mesh reinforcement and restored the bike storage systems to make the site more secure and reduce the risk of future break-ins.
Every ADG office backs local community causes, supported by our national volunteering program. We find the most meaningful projects are the ones that simply help good people keep doing great work.
