Thursday 10 September is R U OK? Day and World Su***de Prevention Day.

We don't often talk about it, but the truth is confronting: eight Australians take their own life every day, and thirty more attempt to. Nine in ten of us know someone who has been through it. So chances are, someone you love, work with, or pass on the street is carrying something heavy right now.

New national research shows less than a quarter of us feel truly prepared to support someone who's struggling, yet 75% of people who took action to support their own wellbeing said it helped. That gap tells us something important: the will to help is there, we just need the confidence to act on it.

To everyone at Proterra Group, and everyone reading this: please take a moment to check in with someone. A mate. A colleague. Someone in your family you haven't heard from in a while. Ask them properly. Sit with the answer, even if it's hard to hear. You don't need to fix anything, you just need to show up.

And if you're the one who isn't OK, please know you matter, and you don't have to carry it alone. Lifeline is there 24/7 on 13 11 14, and Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636.

Hope starts with a conversation.

Myth Busting Monday 🔋

Myth: “Batteries don’t cause fires.”

Fact: Not always. Batteries can become a fire risk if they are crushed, overheated or short circuit. Lithium-ion batteries are especially risky because they can go into thermal runaway, a fast chain reaction that can burn hotter, spread quickly and even reignite.

Action: Keep batteries, vapes and battery-powered devices out of your rubbish and recycling bins. Tape the terminals if required, store them safely and drop them off for proper recycling.

Small battery. Big fire risk. Bin it wrong and it can spark a serious problem.

Recycle it right: find your nearest battery drop-off point at www.recyclemate.com.au and keep batteries out of your bins.

We are at Western Queensland Alliance of Councils (WQAC) for Day 2!

A hot topic yesterday was the Federal Disaster Recovery Funding Framework (DRFA). It was encouraging to see councils, government representatives and industry leaders come together with a shared focus on practical solutions for Western Queensland communities.

Proterra Group is proud to be part of the conversation as the Assembly continues to put the region's challenges and opportunities front and centre.

A big plus for today: Toowoomba-based OD'licious Cookies has helped keep the Proterra Waste stand well stocked, and we still have some delicious treats to share. The talented owner is also the wife of one of our Engineering Managers, and we love supporting small businesses!

What a great start to the Western Queensland Alliance of Councils Assembly!

Last night's welcome reception brought together so much energy and passion for the work ahead. A definite highlight was Ricey taking centre stage to share his enthusiasm for regional and remote areas, our work supporting remote communities, and the waste operations we run through Proterra Waste.

It is inspiring to be surrounded by people who care so deeply about making a real difference on the ground. Looking forward to more great conversations as the Assembly continues!

We are all set up for the Western Queensland Alliance of Councils (WQAC) Assembly! If you're at WQAC, pop over to the Proterra Waste stand and say G'Day to Trudi Bartlett Rice Sean Rice and Anni Colbran

Did you know? 🍯

The complimentary honey at our stand this week isn’t just any honey. It’s from Stickyland, a small-batch raw honey operation in Kingaroy, South Burnett, and it’s made by one of our very own Proterra Wasties! 🐝

Harvested in small batches and left raw and unfiltered, just as the bees made it, proof that our Wasties bring passion and hard work to everything they do.

Come by and try a taste for yourself!

We can't wait to say hello!

WQAC 2026 starts today!

The Proterra Group team has landed in Brisbane and we’re ready for Day 1 of the 7th Western Queensland Alliance of Councils

Trudi Bartlett Rice, Sean Rice and Anni Colbran are looking forward to catching up with familiar faces, meeting new people and hearing what matters most to communities across western and regional Queensland.

With this year’s theme, “Beyond the Range, Built Tough, Think Bold,” we’re excited for a few days of great conversations, shared ideas and practical thinking for the regions.

If you’re attending, make sure you stop by the Proterra Group stand and say hello. We’d love to catch up.

Tomorrow, WQAC 2026 begins.

From 25–27 August 2026, our local government leaders, industry experts and key decision-makers will come together in Brisbane to explore the issues, opportunities and priorities shaping the future of Western Queensland.

We look forward to three days of bold thinking, meaningful conversations and collaboration that will help drive stronger outcomes for regional Queensland.

Safe travels to everyone joining us in Brisbane. We can't wait to see you there!
