🎓 Free 2-day industry event for Rockhampton high school students | 18–19 November

Got a Year 10, 11 or 12 student at home? Meat-Tech Futures is coming to Rockhampton, and it’s free!

Over two days, students will:
✅ Tour a working local meat processing site and see the technology behind it
✅ Get hands-on with robotics, automation and AI
✅ Meet engineers, scientists and innovators in local careers most students don’t know exist
✅ Work in teams to pitch solutions to a real industry challenge, judged by industry leaders

Students from past events have gone on to work experience, apprenticeship and job opportunities.

🍽️ Innovation Evening, Thursday 19 Nov: local businesses and families are welcome to come and watch the student pitches.

👩‍🏫 Teachers: there’s a free AI in Agriculture PD on the afternoon of 18 Nov. You’ll take home free software and a classroom resource, and you don’t need to bring students.

Meat-Tech Futures gives students the opportunity to experience how technology is transforming Australia’s red meat industry — firsthand.

Our Co-Director, Fraser, brings that experience directly into the program, drawing on his work helping bring global innovations such as advanced lamb leg deboning technology to Australia.

By mentoring students through real industry challenges, we want aspiring young innovators to see how they can become part of the next generation shaping a more sustainable red meat industry for years to come.

We’re excited to bring Meat-Tech Futures to more regions across Australia soon - keep your eye on this page!

That's a wrap on Meat-Tech Futures Riverina!

Over two big days at Yanco Agricultural High School, 50 Year 11 and 12 students stepped right inside the future of Australia's meat and agtech industry.

They toured all aspects of a working meat processing facility, got hands-on with robotics, automation, food traceability and AI, and went head-to-head on pitch night, presenting real solutions to a challenge in front of a panel of industry leaders.

The students experienced just how much technology and opportunity sits behind every cut, and plenty walked away able to picture a career they didn't know existed two days earlier. That's exactly the point!

Huge thanks to our host, Yanco Agricultural High School, the team at JBS Riverina, Professor Jane Quinn from Charles Sturt University, and the Australian Meat Processor Corporation for making it possible, and to every student who pitched their heart out.

This is what the future workforce looks like! 👏

We’re proud to be featured by Beef Central, Australia’s leading news source for cattle and beef 🙌

Since 2024, and across six Meat-Tech Futures events delivered around Australia, we’ve been developing and refining a practical engagement model that connects young people and regional communities with the red meat industry. Through these events, we’ve seen the impact this model can have in changing perceptions, building awareness, and helping students see red meat as a place for future-focused careers in technology, robotics, automation, engineering, food innovation and agriculture.

A huge thank you to everyone at Australian Meat Processor Corporation for taking the leap to support a project that set out to do something the industry had not done before.

Through Meat-Tech Futures, we’re proud to be helping write the playbook for attracting tech-minded students into Australia’s red meat industry - showing young people interested in technology, innovation and real-world impact that those opportunities exist right here in Australia's red meat industry.

We’re incredibly grateful for AMPC’s support and proud to be helping build something meaningful for the future of our industry and are already looking forward to the next event!

As the red meat processing sector invests millions into robotics and artificial intelligence, a conversation that keeps following the technology asks questions about who will service the machines, who will fix them when they are broken and who will install them? With a potential skills shortage loom...
