From the TDRU
Rugby Family,
The Townsville and Districts Rugby Union (TDRU) is excited to announce the dates of the 2026 TDRU Junior and Senior Rugby Union Competitions.
Our jam-packed Club Rugby calendar culminates in another epic Grand Final weekend on 4/5th of September 2026.
We will see clubs face off from Under 10s in our PDM Friday Night Juniors to our Dan Ryder Ray White Townsville Mens and Womens 1Sst Grade competitions for the 2026 TDRU Premiership.
But prior to kicking off our Finals Series in August/Sept we will see the Wallabies return to QLD Country Bank Stadium on Saturday the 15th of August for the second year in a row this time taking on our good friends from Japan as part of the World Rugby Nations Cup.
Rugby Unions Golden Decade is now in full swing and we will welcome the RWC 2027 Schedule announcement and draw as well as the pre-release for Tickets in February 2026 ahead of the four RWC pool Matches that will be hosted in Townsville in 2027.
The 2026 season sees the return of our traditional competitions in Juniors and Seniors;
1st grade Men’s competition
1st grade Women’s competition
2nd grade Men’s competition
3rd grade Men’s competition
U19 Men’s Colts competition
Alongside Mixed, male and female junior competitions from U8 to U17
Next year sees the return of initiatives from the 2024/5 season with the U19 Men’s Colts competition, a highlight of the calendar, and, a revised “Fast Start” the juniors preseason competition now simply called “Come & Try Rugby”.
Additionally, we add to this comprehensive season with the Open Men’s and Women’s TDRU 7’s Series competitions kicking off immediately post the club season.
With our famous Zarraffa’s Coffee Festival of 7’s and school sport fixtures also in the mix, the TDRU delivers competitive rugby opportunities for males and females throughout the Townsville district.
In addition to hosting the World Rugby Nations Cup Fixture the TDRU will continue the hosting rights for the Queensland Country Rugby Championships and will welcome the U15 Queensland Schools Rugby Union Championships in July.
We can’t wait to welcome back old and new visitors to our beautiful city and Region and showcase our vibrant Rugby community and some quality Rugby – with the full support of the Townsville City Council.
The 2026 TDRU competition rules are currently being reviewed and will be released early next year which will include appendix’s for our Pathway Juniors, Teenage Girls and 1st Grade Womens Competitions.
2026 is jampacked with quality rugby action and we cannot wait!
With 2025 coming to a close, our TDRU office is having a well-deserved break and will be back on the 19th of January 2026.
Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Regards,
Daniel Withers,
