🍌 Banana for scale 🍌

Our AstroworX 12” f/4 telescope has officially arrived at its new home in a Victorian school dome. The team at Sidereal Trading skillfully installed and tested it.

In the picture, Paul Litchen stands in as a reference, using a banana to show the telescope's size. Sometimes, a human reference helps to really appreciate how big it is.

Bill Stent, known as The Telescope Gent, helped Paul with the installation and commissioning. He is behind the camera, so he isn’t in the photo.

Bill has already captured first light, which is a single 300s guided Ha frame on the QHY268M. There’s still a lot of testing and fine-tuning to do, but the early results look promising.

A big thank you to Bill, Paul, and the Sidereal Trading team for a smooth installation and great teamwork.

A big step forward for the All Abilities Observatory project, with the All Abilities Telescope now delivered from the AstroworX factory to the Leon Mow Dark Sky Site. The telescope will undergo field testing on site, with Astronomical Society of Victoria volunteers putting it through real world use under dark sky conditions. This testing phase is critical for assessing accessibility, ergonomics, ease of operation, and overall performance before the system is locked in.

Once field testing is complete, the telescope will return to AstroworX for final adjustments and refinements based on volunteer feedback. After that, it will be permanently installed at the All Abilities Observatory at LMDSS, delivering an inclusive observing experience designed to be genuinely usable by everyone.

Something very special is taking shape in the Astroworx workshop. The All Abilities Telescope is almost ready, a fully custom Naysmith style instrument built from the ground up to make astronomy accessible for everyone.

This is not an off the shelf telescope. This is engineered accessibility, crafted with precision machining, custom geometry, and a design that brings the night sky to observers who cannot use traditional high standing eyepieces. It is almost ready for first light and final testing before we deliver it to the Astronomical Society of Victoria.
