SSWM at Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show.

We’re so excited to have supplied https://axongardenstudio.com.au/ with stainless steel woven mesh for their not only creative but sustainable project, "Lucky Garden Block".

This is one of those projects where the mesh really does speak for itself.
Thoughtfully selected apertures that keep pests out while letting pollinators in, paired with beautifully crafted stainless steel woven garden beds that make the most of a small space.

A project showcasing that function can be beautiful too!
We can’t wait to see Axon Garden Studio next project!

🔥 SSWM is excited to be part of National Bushfire Conference – From Risk to Readiness, 5-7 November 2025

We’re proud to announce that SSWM will be exhibiting and presenting at the upcoming National Bushfire Conference, showcasing our commitment to bushfire resilience and cutting-edge research.

Presentation Topic:
“Understanding Ember Behaviour Through Testing Using an Ember Generator and High-Speed Camera”

In collaboration with the University of Southern Queensland (USQ), we’ve conducted rigorous testing of our Bushfire Mesh TOUGH using USQ’s “mini-dragon” ember generator and high-speed imaging. These tests simulate real bushfire conditions, offering a powerful visual of how our mesh acts as a barrier against ember attack.

Why it matters:
Ember attack causes up to 80% of home losses during bushfires. Our Bushfire Mesh Shield range is engineered to catch, hold, and release embers once they’re no longer a threat. Research shows 98.5% of embers passing through Bushfire Mesh TOUGH pose no further danger.

We’re proud to contribute to the education and empowerment of communities across Australia. Join us at the conference to see how innovation and research are shaping safer futures.

Across the globe, bushfire-prone communities are confronting a new reality. From devastating international wildfires to Australia’s Black Summer and rising peri-urban risks, the need for stronger bushfire preparedness has never more important.

In just 5 days, the National Bushfire conference 2025 will bring together Australian and international experts to address how we can prepare smarter, respond faster and build more resilient built communities. Plus, a dedicated tradeshow, attendees will gain insight into the latest innovations in bushfire protection technology, materials, systems and services.

This year, all attendees and industry professionals can look forward to something special.

Stainless Steel “Strong Lock” Coastal Fencing is the optimum solution to support coastal conservation
📍 Curl Curl Beach, Northern Beaches

THEN (April 2019)
Stainless steel fencing was installed ahead of dune revegetation works. Unlike galvanised steel which would require replacing in 7–10 years, risking damage to the restored dunes, stainless steel was chosen for its long term durability.

NOW (May 2025)
Six years on, the results speak for themselves. The fencing remains strong and corrosion-free, helping to:
✅ Protect and restore the dune system in harsh coastal conditions
✅ Reduce long-term costs thanks to minimal maintenance
✅ Support hessian barriers that reduce sand movement
✅ Reduce risk and liability as rusted wire is no longer a hazard to the community
✅ Earn community respect, no climbing, no damage

Stainless steel: built to last, built for conservation.

🔥Project: Bushfire Subfloor Protection in BAL Flame Zone 🔥
📍 Site Location: Barragga Bay, NSW
Product: SSWM Bushfire Mesh "Tough"
https://www.sswm.com.au/bushfiremesh/
🏗️ Contractor: Bermagui Building & Construction

Challenge:
Located in a Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) Flame Zone—the highest risk category under Australian bushfire standards—this residential property needed a robust solution to prevent ember intrusion and protect the subfloor area.

The Problem:
Homes in BAL Flame Zone areas face extreme bushfire threats, with ember attack responsible for up to 80% of home losses during bushfires. Embers can travel up to 40 km ahead of the fire front, entering through subfloor gaps and igniting flammable materials. The homeowner needed a durable, compliant, and visually appealing solution to mitigate this risk and protect their family and property.

The SSWM Solution:
Bermagui Building & Construction custom-built frames to house SSWM Bushfire Mesh Tough, creating a fully enclosed subfloor system. This mesh is engineered to defend against ember attack, radiant heat & direct flame.

🌊 SSWM to Present at the Australian Coastal Council Conference 2025
We’re proud to announce that SSWM, in collaboration with Northern Beaches Council and Adam Burrowes, Special Projects Officer, will be presenting at the Australian Coastal Council Conference 2025.

Presentation Topic:
“Using Sustainable Materials and Long-Lasting 316 Grade Stainless Steel Fencing to Stabilise and Restore Dunes Along Sydney’s Northern Beaches”

📅 Date: 31 July – 1 August 2025
📍 Location: Mantra Mooloolaba, Queensland
https://www.coastalcouncils.org.au/australian-coastal-councils-conference-2025/

This presentation will highlight our award-winning case study at Curl Curl Beach, where stainless steel fencing has played a vital role in long-term dune restoration and coastal protection.

At SSWM, we’re committed to developing durable and sustainable solutions that empower communities to invest in long-term environmental resilience. Working alongside local councils, we’re helping extend the life of public assets through the smart use of stainless steel.

Stainless steel supports key standards:
• Asset Management (ISO 55000)
• Occupational Health & Safety (ISO 45001)
• Environmental Management (ISO 14001)

With significantly lower maintenance and replacement costs, stainless steel delivers a lower total cost of ownership, making it a smart, sustainable choice for coastal infrastructure.

We’re excited to share our insights and continue supporting councils in building a more sustainable future.
