It is with great sorrow that we share the following funeral notice on the passing of a former TSL staff officer John "JJ" Jones.

JJ retired from Tully Sugar in 2004 having served as Chief Engineer from 1996, originally commencing his employment as a 3rd Engineer in April 1977, after making the move from the Proserpine Mill where he worked as a Shift Engineer.

His knowledge and contribution to the growth and progress of Tully Sugar during his many years of service is legendary. JJ was a no nonsense leader, and never ask anyone to complete a task that he wouldn’t do himself.

All four of JJ’s and his late wife Mary's sons, also completed their varied apprenticeships at the mill, with one of their grandsons currently undertaking their apprenticeships at Tully Sugar.

John Jones will always be fondly remembered at TSL as one of the best….
May you rest in peace JJ together with your beloved wife Mary..

As we close out the 2025 crushing season, our centenary year, we’re proud to share another strong performance from our growers, harvesting crews, and mill teams.

For a century, Tully Sugar has stood proudly at the heart of this community, and it is the people – our farmers, our employees, our families, and our local community and organisations – who have made this achievement possible. And that is captured in our Centenary Celebration slogan: “Growing together for 100 years”.

Since COFCO took ownership of Tully Sugar in 2011, we have proudly donated $30,000 each year to support local not-for-profit community groups, schools and sporting clubs, groups that play such a vital role in shaping and strengthening the Tully district.

Recently our CEO Andrew Yu shared his gratitude, saying how proud he is that Tully Sugar can continue its long-standing tradition of giving back to the community within the heartland of the Sugar Mill, that has supported us every step of the way, especially in this centenary year of operation, something Tully Sugar is honoured to be part of.
