At our award-winning Millswood home, Troy sits down with Esteban Ortiz from Pleysier Perkins to reflect on the ideas, decisions and collaboration that shaped the project.

Designed for a family who valued space, the home is generous in scale while remaining connected and considered. From the use of Krause Bricks to the way each space flows into the next, the details are grounded in the way the home was intended to be lived in.

Together, Troy and Esteban revisit the original brief, the architectural approach and the process of bringing the home to life — reflecting on the considered decisions that shape its distinct character.

Winner — Contract Home: $2M-$4M

Last night our Millswood Klemm Home took out the Contract Home $2M-$4M Category at the Master Builders Association SA Building Excellence Awards.

Designed by Pleysier Perkins, this architectural home brings together considered design, craftsmanship and a refined material palette. From the complex multi-pour slab with integrated hydronic heating, to the polished concrete floors, extensive joinery, retractable door system and internal brick chimney, every detail was carefully considered.

A home that was built and designed around family life, with spaces that flow naturally and feel connected throughout.

With the Master Builders Association SA awards taking place this Friday, we’ve been reflecting on two homes we’re incredibly proud to have been nominated for — Millswood and Hillside II.

For us, the best part of building a home is always the people behind it. Understanding how a family lives, what matters to them and how they want their home to feel.

Millswood was designed for a family with older children, with generous spaces to come together, room for everyone to have their own space and a seamless connection between indoors and out.

Hillside II takes a bolder approach, with rich burgundy tones, striking materials and spaces made for entertaining, gathering and enjoying time together.

Two homes. Two families. Two completely different ways of living.

And that’s exactly how it should be.

At Klemm, every home starts with listening, then designing and building around the people who will live there.

Lighting is so much more than most people think.

It’s not just the downlights in the kitchen or the pendant over the island. It’s the sculptural pieces that become part of the architecture. The textures, the materials and the layers that shape the way a home feels from morning through to night.

That’s why we’ve loved partnering with THE LIGHT IMPACT. As a fellow South Australian business with an in-house design team, they create lighting that’s as beautiful as it is functional — pieces that feel more like works of art than simply light fittings.

As the day draws to a close, we’re reminded that the most meaningful spaces in a home are often the quietest ones. Not the places where we gather or entertain, but the ones that allow us to slow down, reflect and simply be.

When designing Hillside II, we wanted the bedroom to feel intentionally removed from the rhythm of everyday life. While the rest of the home embraces connection and activity, this space was always about creating a sense of retreat. Soft textures, warm, natural tones and gentle light were chosen not only for their beauty, but for the feeling they create together.

We believe a bedroom should be more than somewhere to sleep. It should be a place where the day naturally comes to an end, where the pace softens and the outside world begins to fade away. A space that restores you, quietly and effortlessly. To us, that’s what makes a home feel truly considered.
