Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning at 2.43pm for DAMAGING WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL affecting people in parts of and , , , , and Forecast Districts.

Fast moving thunderstorms have developed along a slow moving front extending across the Riverina and into the Upper Western.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce DAMAGING WINDS over the next several hours in parts of the Central West Slopes and Plains, Riverina, Lower Western and Upper Western districts. Locations which may be affected include , , , , and .

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce HEAVY RAINFALL l that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the South West Slopes, Riverina and Snowy Mountains districts. Locations which may be affected include , , , , and .

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
๐Ÿ‘‰ Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Trees are more likely to be unstable due to the recent heavy rain.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.

The NSW SES is now officially using the Australian Warning System (AWS) for flood and tsunami warnings.
The AWS is a nationally consistent, three-tiered approach designed to make warnings clearer and lead people to take action ahead of severe weather events. The warning system comprises of warning levels, action statements, hazard icons, colours and shapes.
There are three levels within the AWS - Advice, Watch & Act and Emergency Warning. For each level, there are a series of clear action statements to guide positive action by the community. These include โ€˜stay informedโ€™, โ€˜prepare to evacuateโ€™ and โ€˜move to higher groundโ€™ as shown below:

MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT GUNDAGAI
MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT WAGGA WAGGA SUNDAY EVENING
MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT NARRANDERA NEXT WEEK

Major flooding is occurring along the Murrumbidgee River at Gundagai. At Wagga Wagga minor flooding is expected Saturday evening, with moderate flooding possible Sunday evening. Moderate flooding is possible at Narrandera around Tuesday next week. Peak predictions downstream of Narrandera will be provided once upstream peaks has been observed. Flood operations are being conducted by WaterNSW at Burrinjuck Dam and spillway releases have commenced. The releases may vary subject to inflow rates. The release plan follows consultation with the SES and local communities. WaterNSW are working closely with the Bureau, NSW SES and landholders with releases taken into account into the flood forecasts and warning.

What we are expecting:
River downstream of Burrinjuck to Wagga Wagga:
Major flooding is occurring along the Murrumbidgee River at . Moderate flooding is possible at Wagga Wagga. The Murrumbidgee River at Gundagai may reach around 9.10 metres Saturday afternoon with major flooding. Further rises are possible. The Murrumbidgee River at Wagga Wagga is likely to exceed the minor flood level (7.30 metres) Saturday evening. The river level may reach the moderate flood level (9.00 metres) Sunday evening. Further rises are possible.
The following impacts may occur:
โ€ข The Morlesy Creek access to Middleton Drive is closed
โ€ข Otway Street will close.
โ€ข Tenandra/Mundarlo Bridge will close.
โ€ข Poley Bridge will close.
โ€ข Properties will be isolated along Adelong Creek Road.
โ€ข Adelong Creek and Bereena Roads will close.
โ€ข Gobarralong Bridge will close
โ€ข Golf Course Foot bridge over Morleys Creek will overtop
โ€ข Gundagai River Flats will flood.
โ€ข The Gundagai River Caravan Park will need to be evacuated.
โ€ข Middleton Drive will flood
โ€ข Oโ€™Briens Road will close โ€“ isolating properties.
โ€ข Byron Street and Sheridan Lane will be impacted.
โ€ข Potential overtopping level of the Yarri Bridge
โ€ข Nangus Road (Gundagai to Junee road) may close, cutting access to the village of Nangus

The Murrumbidgee River at Wagga Wagga is likely to exceed the minor flood level (7.30 m) Saturday afternoon. The river level may reach the moderate flood level (9.00 m) Sunday morning. Further rises are possible.

The following impacts may occur:
โ€ข Sturt Highway may close west of Wagga at Sandy Creek.
โ€ข Water may impact Hampden Avenue between Wagga and North Wagga this may isolate North Wagga.
โ€ข Hampden Avenue between North Wagga may close.
โ€ข Flowerdale Road may close.
โ€ข Old Narrrandera may close.
โ€ข Wagga Beach will close.
โ€ข Eunony Bridge road may close.
โ€ข Graham Avenue may close.
โ€ข Mundowy Road at Beavers Bridge at Collingullie may close.
โ€ข Access road to Oura Beach can be cut.
โ€ข Gumly Gumly Island can become isolated.

Murrumbidgee River downstream of Wagga Wagga to Narrandera:
Moderate flooding may occur along the Murrumbidgee River at Narrandera.
The Murrumbidgee River at Narrandera may reach around 7.60 metres around Tuesday, with moderate flooding. Further rises are possible

What you need to do:
โ€ข Monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop.
โ€ข Farmers should move livestock and equipment away from flood-prone paddocks.
For emergency help in floods and storms, call the NSW State Emergency Service on 132 500. In life threatening situations call triple zero (000) immediately.
