Not sure if that solar panel still works? Bring it in — we'll test it for FREE, while you wait ✅

Got panels sitting in the shed? Pulled one off the caravan and not sure if it's still pulling its weight? Bring them down to Alt-Tech Wagga and we'll test them on the spot.

Here's how it works 👇
☀️ Bring it in — as long as the sun's out, we'll test it right there while you wait.
🔍 We check the real output — open circuit voltage, short circuit current, and a proper visual inspection for cell damage.
📄 You get the results — actual numbers, so you know exactly what that panel is producing versus what it's supposed to. No guesswork.
✅ If it's good — brilliant. You've got a working panel and now you know its real output.
♻️ If it's had it — we'll offer a trade-in discount on a replacement and take the old one off your hands.
📞Happy to test multiple — got more than a few? Give us a call before you get here to check our availability.

Testing panels is what we do every day — it's how every second-life panel on our shelves gets graded before it's sold. Same test, same standards, no charge to you 🔧

⚡ Thinking about going off-grid? Start here 👇

The first and most important question is: how much power do you use, and when?

It's easier to work out than you'd think:

📝 Step 1 — List every appliance you want to run (fridge, lights, TV, kettle, tools)

🔢 Step 2 — Find each one's wattage (it's on the label)

⏰ Step 3 — Estimate how many hours a day you use each one. A fridge running 24/7 is a very different beast to a toastie maker used for 5 minutes

➕ Step 4 — Add it all up. That's your daily energy use in watt-hours.

☀️🌙 Step 5 — Note when you use it. Daytime loads run straight off your panels. Night-time loads run off your battery.

And that's the magic number — panels get sized to cover your daily use and charging the battery, battery gets sized to carry you through the night (plus a buffer for the cloudy runs we know all too well this time of year ☁️).
No guesswork, no oversized system you didn't need, no undersized one that leaves you in the dark.

Bring your list in and we'll turn your dream into reality — usually over a cuppa ☕

🔒 Generate, store, and use your own power!

The big power companies told you that joining a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) was the future. Then they built massive, utility-scale batteries to control the market.

Now, those extreme VPP payouts have shrunk, and corporate operators still get to decide when to drain your battery. Even after investing in a home battery, you are back to selling your power cheap and buying it back for more later on.

---

🔋 Why True Off-Grid Beats a VPP:

⚡ 100% Power Retention | Stop selling your power back to the grid for peanuts. Use every single kilowatt-hour to run your home and charge your EV for free.

🛡️ Total Sovereignty | No VPP operator dipping into your storage when the grid gets stressed. Your power stays in your home, where it belongs.

💰 Zero Utility Bills | Say goodbye to daily supply charges, network delivery fees, and retail spikes forever.

🌐 Micro-Grid Engineering | Scale up from a single property to a localized micro-grid, linking multiple buildings or workshops into one resilient, independent power network.

💡 What Actually Happens to Your Solar During a Blackout

Here's a question we get heaps: "If the grid goes down, does my solar still work?"

The short answer: it depends on your setup.

🔋 Grid-tied systems with battery backup:
If you have a battery system, it kicks in automatically when the grid drops. You keep powered — the sun even recharges your battery during the day. Size your battery right and you could run for days.

🔋 Grid-tied systems WITHOUT battery:
Most standard grid-tied inverters shut off completely during an outage — this is a safety requirement (so line workers don't get zapped). Your panels sit idle until grid power returns.

🔋 Off-grid systems:
You're completely independent. Blackouts are just... Tuesday. Your solar charges your batteries, batteries run your home. No drama.

The takeaway: if blackout resilience matters to you, battery backup is the key. We stock Victron inverters, Pylontech batteries, and can spec a system to match your needs — whether you're backup-power ready or going full off-grid.

💡 How Solar & Batteries Actually Work Together

Wondering why your solar system needs a battery? Here's the deal…

Solar panels only produce power when the sun is shining. But most households use the MOST power in the morning and evening — when the sun isn't at its peak (or at all).

That's where batteries come in.

During the day, your solar charges the battery instead of exporting excess to the grid for peanuts. Then at night, you draw from that stored power instead of buying from the grid at premium rates.

For off-grid setups, this is non-negotiable. You need enough battery capacity to get through 12-14 hours of darkness. For grid-tied homes with battery backup, a well-sized system can slash your grid dependence by 70-80%.

We supply Victron inverters paired with quality LiFePO4 batteries — from 5kWh units for tiny homes up to 20kWh+ setups for full off-grid houses. We also have micro-grid cabinets for larger properties needing serious storage.

Things on Your Farm That Don't Need Petrol Or Diesel!

Ever looked at something on your property and thought "there's got to be a better way than running fuel for this"? Us too. Here's what solar can actually run on a farm:

🐄 Electric Fencing — Keep your fences hot without the the grid. Solar and batteries keeps energisers running 24/7.

💧 Water Pumping — Verdant Solar pumps pull water from dams/bores straight from the sun. No fuel, no fire risk; just water when you need it the most.

🔦 Shed Power — Lights, tools, phone charger, radio. All the little things that make after-work hours bearable — powered by panels on the roof.

📹 Security Cameras — Remote gates, silos, yards. See what's happening without running power lines to the middle of nowhere.

🚪 Gate Openers — Solar-powered automatic gates. No more getting out of the car a hundred times a day.

🔋 Backup Power — Keep the essentials running when the grid goes down. Fridge, lights, comms — covered.

🔌 Portable Power — The eTrailer brings power anywhere. Fencing, pumping, tools — take it where the work is.

The best part? Alt-Tech can build a system for any of these. From panels at $50 to full off-grid setups. Tell us what you're trying to power — we'll tell you what you need.
