💡 How Solar Panel Angle Affects Your Power Production

At Wagga's latitude (35°S), the optimal year-round tilt is around 30-35°. Here's how it changes through the year:

Summer: Sun is high, so flatter panels (20°) capture more light. Fixed systems use a compromise — that's fine.

Winter: Sun stays low. Steeper angles (35-40°) catch more winter sun. Flat panels in winter can mean 10-15% less output.

If you're unable to adjust seasonally — a fixed compromise of 25-30° works reasonably well year-round. If you can adjust, expect 5-10% more winter power.

The cleaning factor:

• Dust: 10-25% efficiency loss
• Mould: common in colder months, especially under trees
• Leaves: can block panels entirely

📰 Battery Rebate Dropped — What It Means for You

The federal battery rebate changed on May 1. If you've been considering battery storage, here's what you need to know.

The change: The rebate dropped from ~$450 per kWh to around $252 per kWh. For a typical 13kWh battery, that's gone from about $3,360 off to around $2,720. Still significant — but if you're waiting, every month you wait costs you money.

What this means for you:
If you're on solar, a battery lets you store that excess power you're generating during the day and use it at night — when electricity is most expensive. With power prices still high and set to stay that way through winter, batteries are becoming essential, not optional.

Energy saving tip:
Check your usage patterns. Most households use most power between 4pm-9pm. If your solar is production-heavy during midday, you're likely exporting cheap power and buying it back expensive. A battery fixes that gap.
