If the Winterbourne Wind Farm project is approved, we will truck turbine parts from the Port of Newcastle to Walcha. Much of that trip will be along the New England Highway, including through the Moonbi Range.

The trips will likely happen overnight or very early in the morning. We will avoid the busiest times through the Moonbi section.

The highway through Moonbi will remain open for most of the trips, though there may be delays of about 5 minutes in the northbound direction due to slower moving vehicles going up the range.

When we transport the turbine blades, we may need to temporarily close a 2 km section of road at the top of the range to let the oversize vehicle pass through. This would mean an average delay of about 5 minutes, with a maximum delay of 10 minutes. There will be no more than one blade transported per day.

This will help provide a better and safer playing surface for senior, junior, school and Masters cricket, helping the association continue to host matches and events throughout the season.

These games bring players, families and supporters to Walcha, contributing to a strong local sporting community.

Winterbourne Wind Farm will provide a boost for local businesses over the estimated four years of project construction, working with local contractors and suppliers where possible and bringing more spending into the region.

With up to 390 people expected during peak construction, the project can create flow-on benefits for local pubs, cafes, shops, fuel stations and everyday services across Walcha and the surrounding region.

WinterbourneWind will offer high-quality jobs for local workers during project construction and operation.

We expect up to 390 jobs at peak construction. While many of these jobs will involve specialised skills (e.g., crane operators), we estimate more than 100 jobs could be available to the local and regional workforce.

Plus we estimate up to 16 ongoing local roles will be created once the project is up and running.

That means real pathways for young people to learn new skills and find work close to home.
