I won't ever stop advocating for breaking the stigma around talking about mental health for my colleagues in construction.

I am where I am because, whether I asked for help or struggled in silence - I had people there for me. Some of those folks I have never met, and maybe never will.
The point I am trying to explain is working in construction can and will be stressful, but there are so many others wearing the same shoes who can understand where you are and will be more than happy to share their experiences.

Builders helping builders, tradies helping tradies.

How I found myself in this position is a matter of chance. I filled a form out, I shared why I decided to fill that form out; and here I am. What does it mean? I honestly don't know yet.

You may have seen the last post about rocking a mullet for mental health, and by Jove you'll hate look at my new haircut!

The Black Dog Institute's Mullet for Mental Health fund-raiser is something I stumbled across last week; their goal of encouraging conversation around hard to talk about topics, around the stresses life, and mostly how there are people around who will give you the time of day, the shoulder to lean on, the ear to vent to.

I'll look like a goose for a month, and most certainly twist people's necks when they clap their eyelids at the way my head look - and I've only just started!

G'day folks,

I'm about to cut in one of those seedy balding man mullets that you may have clapped your eyelids at once or twice..

Why? For
I am aiming to raise $1,000.

If you'd like to donate: https://www.mulletsformentalhealth.org.au/s/64401/72545/e

What is "the Black Dog"?
It's a cozy way of explaining self-destructive behaviour which ultimately ends up with su***de.

I was almost a statistic of su***de. It's not an easy topic to talk about, it's not an easy topic to listen to people talk about.

Sometimes when your head is swirling and overwhelming, being able to reach out to a stranger and vent is a needed relief - even if it's a band-aid solution, it will get you to tomorrow.

I am here for anyone who needs a shoulder, if you need a meal, if you need someone to vent to, if you need anything to get you to tomorrow, I am here.
