Australian Heritage Homes P/L, CDB-U 49335, located in Warrandyte South, Victoria. We mostly build in the Eastern and South-Eastern region of Melbourne and outlying suburbs. Our company was founded by Siggy Van Unen, father of the current owner/operator, Renay van Unen, who has been building with the family business for the past 25 years. Every customer speaks with and discusses matters with Renay

, the owner and builder ensuring an expertise in service that cannot be matched by a typical sales rep from other building companies. We employ the same trades people for every project who have been working with us for many years, ensuring the consistency in quality that we pride ourselves on. We pride ourselves on building homes of superior quality and excellent value. What this means is that your home will require less maintenance, look newer and be in better shape than other homes five, ten or forty years into the future. 🏑 Solving the Puzzle – Knock Down Rebuild in Blackburn North

When Rob and his family came to us with a sloping block, a South-East Water easement running right through the middle of the property, and a flood overlay to contend with – most builders would have walked away. Not us.

This 25-square, double-storey home in Blackburn North was four years in the making. Navigating town planning restrictions called for some seriously creative engineering – a detachable carport, raised floor levels, and a design that spanned both the easement and the slope. The result? A home that exceeded every expectation.

Inside, it's all about the details: feature timber floors and plush carpets, a stunning kitchen with stone benchtops and soft-closing cabinetry, striking navy tiled splashback, feature floor tiling in the wet areas, and a spacious covered alfresco with exposed rafters – perfect for year-round entertaining.

As Rob put it: "We could not be happier. Our block was challenging due to easement location, sloping block and flood zone; however, Renay and the team produced a beautiful home that was well finished, within schedule and budget."

That's what 40+ years of building experience looks like. πŸ’ͺ

🏠 Conquering the Slope – 37-Square Custom Double Storey in Chirnside Park

When the owners of 76 Columbia Blvd came to us with their dream home vision, the block had other ideas. With severe slopes falling both to the rear and sideways, this Chirnside Park site demanded 12 months of meticulous design collaboration between our team, the owners, and our builder before a single footing was poured.

The result? A breathtaking 37-square double-storey home built around the land β€” not against it. Structural retaining walls tame the slope on both sides, while an open alfresco area at the rear captures sweeping parkland views. Inside, a custom feature metal staircase with unique treads makes a bold architectural statement, complemented by imported tiles in the wet areas, feature timber flooring, and a large walk-through pantry behind a stunning custom kitchen.

Every detail was crafted to exceed expectations β€” and that's exactly what we delivered. πŸ’ͺ

🏠 Dream Big, Build Bigger – Custom Double Storey in Dandenong North

When Casey & Celina came to us with a vision that was bigger than their block, we said: challenge accepted. This 35-square custom double storey home was a knock-down rebuild that pushed every boundary β€” quite literally. The brief? A spacious family home with one non-negotiable: an in-ground pool.

Working closely with council and building within maximum site allowances, our team designed around easement lines and retaining walls to deliver everything on the wish list. The result speaks for itself β€” feature timber flooring flowing throughout the entire ground floor, a show-stopping custom kitchen with SMEG appliances and stone splashback, a separate bar area, imported floor-to-ceiling tiles in the wet areas, and a large alfresco that opens straight out to the pool and entertaining zone.

In Casey & Celina's words: "We can't thank you enough for turning our dream home into a reality! If we were to ever build again, we would choose Renay & his boys in a heartbeat." πŸ’›

β™Ώ Built for Everyone – Accessible Custom Home in Warrandyte

When Stevo and Carolyn came to us with their forever-home vision, they needed more than just a beautiful build. Their home had to be fully wheelchair accessible with easy navigation throughout – and it had to sit on one of Warrandyte's most challenging blocks: a steep incline, dense vegetation, multiple council overlays, and a high bushfire rating.

Before a single tree was touched, we worked closely with our clients, design team, and the relevant authorities to address site positioning, flora and fauna, tree protection, rainwater run-off, and neighbouring property impacts. With everyone aligned, we brought in specialised machinery and cranes to carefully clear designated trees and cut the initial driveway – all coordinated precisely so work could flow seamlessly.

18 months and 34 squares later, the result is a home that's accessible for all, easy to navigate, and surrounded by panoramic bushland views from the expansive rear balcony. As Stevo and Carolyn put it: "Our home is 100% custom… and all of our requests were met with a can-do attitude that makes the whole process enjoyable."

Great things take time – and this one was worth every moment. 🌿

🏑 Street Appeal That Stops You in Your Tracks – Custom Build in Mitcham

When a growing family came to us three years ago with big dreams for their corner site in Mitcham, we knew this one was going to be special. Covid restrictions slowed the initial design process, but great things really do come to those who wait.

Corner blocks are notoriously tricky — tight angles, exposed frontage, and the challenge of maximising every square metre. We worked closely with the owners to design a 28-square double-storey home that spans almost the entire width of the site. The striking multi-gable façade doesn't just create incredible street presence — it cleverly sets back the upper storey rooms behind the pitched roofs for added privacy.

Inside, the open-plan kitchen diner is the heart of the home, flooded with natural light thanks to double-width sliding doors on both sides. Hidden storage benches built into recessed windows keep everything clutter-free, while stone benchtops, handleless cabinetry and custom LED lighting give the home a beautifully clean, minimalist feel. With 4 bedrooms, a playroom, butler's pantry and alfresco with exposed rafters β€” this family has all the room they need to grow.

Sometimes the best brief is a blank canvas. 🏠

Our clients in Heathmont came to us with a vision: a custom split-level home that worked with their site rather than against it. The result is a home that's uniquely theirs β€” every room, every level, every detail designed around how they actually live.

At Australian Heritage Homes, we specialise in custom builds that make the most of your block β€” whether it's a sloped site, a challenging orientation, or simply a desire to do things differently.

No display homes. No compromises.

🏠 Breathing New Life into a 1910 Victorian – Moonee Ponds

When Phil & Jacqui came to us with their single-fronted 1910 home in Moonee Ponds, they knew it had stories to tell β€” but the rear of the house needed a serious transformation. What followed was years of careful planning, with dozens of layout options explored to satisfy both the owners' vision and every council requirement (including the tricky challenge of rear decking height and overlooking neighbours).

The result? A stunning renovation that honours the home's heritage character while delivering a completely modern lifestyle. We matched every cornice, architrave, skirting and archway to the originals, installed a brand-new kitchen with stone benchtops, laid feature timber flooring throughout, and built a beautiful elevated rear deck with roof cover, screening, and a high-gloss finish. A new bathroom with European-style laundry rounded out the transformation.

As the owners put it: "Our family and friends were almost brought to tears when they saw it β€” like a Block reveal!" That's the kind of reaction we live for. πŸ’›

🏠 From Run-Down to Remarkable – Knock Down Rebuild in Upper Ferntree Gully

Some blocks are more challenging than others β€” and that's exactly what excites us. This Upper Ferntree Gully project started with an old run-down home on a severely sloping block. With council coordination, neighbourhood consultation and careful town planning, we aligned on a spacious 32-square custom design that made the most of every inch of the terrain.

A feature retaining wall along the high side of the block tackled the slope head-on, opening up a world of design possibilities. After 14 months of detailed planning with our clients, we delivered a home featuring stunning timber flooring throughout, a custom-designed kitchen with separate walk-through pantry, imported tile linings in the wet areas, feature ensuite works, and an open alfresco area perfect for entertaining.

From challenge to calling card β€” this is why we love what we do. πŸ”¨

🏑 Grand Colonial Living – Custom Build in Langwarrin

When our clients envisioned a grand Colonial-style home on their beautiful flat site in Langwarrin, they weren't thinking small. At 29 squares with four bedrooms plus a study, this home was designed to make a statement β€” while blending seamlessly with the semi-rural surroundings.

Every detail was carefully considered. Traditional limestone blockwork sourced from Western Australia creates a timeless facade, complemented by an arched verandah with ornate corner fretworks β€” a nod to the Victorian era. Inside, timber flooring runs through the living areas, Colonial-style architraves and skirtings add character, and large bay windows flood every room with natural light.

Built on a slab to keep the home low and connected to its manicured grounds, the entertainment areas were designed to capture views from every angle. Over fifteen years on and this one still looks as stunning as the day it was finished. That's the AHH difference. πŸ’›

🏑 Mastering the Slope – Custom Build in Montmorency

When Derek and Stefanie came to us with a challenging sloped block in Montmorency, we saw opportunity where others saw obstacles. The result? A stunning 36-square, double-storey split-level home that embraces every contour of the land.

Split-level design allowed us to create natural separation between living zones β€” the lower level flows out to a resort-style pool, while the upper floor features an expansive balcony with sweeping treetop views. Inside, the custom kitchen is a showstopper: a generous island bench, walk-through butler's pantry, and rich feature timber flooring that runs throughout.

From challenging slope to dream home β€” this is what bespoke building looks like. 🌿
