Is tiling precision important?

You probably don’t notice it when it’s done well. You definitely notice it when it isn’t.

Pools are one of those finishes where every line carries through the entire shell. Corners, transitions, steps, edges and thousands of individual mosaics all need to read as one continuous surface.

This Gisborne project has just reached tiling completion in Gun Metal Blue by and it’s one of those stages where the craftsmanship does all the talking.

The pool might get the attention, but it’s often the spa that becomes the most used part.

As wellness spaces become a bigger part of the brief, we’re seeing more emphasis placed on creating places for pause, recovery and reset, not just swimming.

At Loop House, the spa creates a slower moment within the wider pool experience, designed to be enjoyed well beyond summer.

Portsea progress.

A big week on site as the pool excavation starts to reveal the scale and shape of the project.

One of those stages where everything suddenly feels a lot more real.

Great to be working alongside the teams at + and on this one.

There’s something different about a pool in the bush.

The light changes faster. The reflections are softer. And if the build is handled properly, the water starts to feel like part of the landscape rather than something added to it.

At New Gisborne, the pool was positioned to draw your attention outward across the canopy, the changing sky and the rolling landscape beyond.

The detailing had to stay incredibly controlled to achieve that feeling. Tight lines. Quiet materials. Clean transitions. Nothing overworked.

A project that proves luxury doesn’t always need to feel loud.

Save this for anyone planning a home that leans into the landscape instead of competing with it.

A country estate calls for a pool that can hold its own.

Positioned to take in the full width of the landscape, with levels set so the waterline runs clean through to Mount Macedon.

Planting softens the edge, but the geometry stays clear.

Beaumaris, just before fill.

Large format tiles shift the whole read of a pool. Fewer joins, longer lines and a surface that feels carved rather than pieced together.

Eco Technifirma 1220 × 600 tiles from set that direction early. You see it most clearly at this stage, before water comes in and softens the edges.

Water next.

Tile choice can make or break a pool.

This one in Warranwood is a good example of getting it right.

The client has gone with an ash grey mosaic that avoids going too blue or too dark, and gives a clean, consistent finish across the whole pool.

It picks up the light, works with the surroundings and holds its colour once filled.

Simple decision, but it changes everything.

Not every great pool needs a big footprint.

This one proves the point. Tucked neatly alongside the home, it turns a narrow run of space into something you actually want to spend time in.

Long enough to swim. Close enough to connect to the house. And detailed in a way that makes the whole zone feel calm, considered and easy to live with.

What you’re looking at here only works if everything underneath it is exact.

Pools like this don’t allow for compromise. When the edge is this clean and the relationship to the surrounding levels is this precise, the entire build comes down to set out, coordination and ex*****on on site.

On this project, the pool and all adjoining elements were established early and tied back to stable ground using strip footings and concrete piers. From there, every line you see was built exactly as intended.

It’s not the part you notice first, but it’s what allows a pool to sit this comfortably within its setting.
