Last week we completed an External Steel post Repair.
External posts cop all the weather and are most likely to fail due to seasonal ingress.
✅We thought we would share our method to rectifying these issues. ✅

Steel Post Repair Method:
Temporary jacks were installed to safely support and stabilise the structure during the repair works. The deteriorated and rust-affected sections of the existing steel post were carefully cut out and removed.
An 89 × 89 × 4 mm structural steel sleeve was then installed and fully welded to the remaining sound steel, creating a new structural post and restoring the required structural integrity.
The repaired steelwork was treated with a rust converter, followed by cold galvanising paint and bituminous protective coating to provide additional corrosion protection. The post was securely tied into the new concrete footing with welded plates and concrete Ramset bolts, the footing formed with a domed finish to promote water runoff and reduce water and soil contact around the base of the post.
All works were completed with the structure supported throughout the repair process and the repaired post reinstated as a continuous structural support.
