With the Country’s focus on the recent referendum, we didn’t get the chance to share our time at the Pilbara 2023 summit. We want progress for our First Nations people and now, we are more motivated than ever to keep pushing forward to support communities and industry to develop renewable projects together – that is socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable.

“The way forward is for everyone to work collaboratively together to share the big ideas and share the learnings because we don’t really have the time to not get it right, we need to get it right for the First Nations partners and for the world if we are going to make a real difference by 2030,” – Pilbara Solar Managing Director

Pilbara Solar shares our heartfelt disappointment with First Nations people around the country with the referendum outcome. We took time to show our respect during the week of silence and to also reflect on ways to look ahead. Clean Energy Council CEO Kane Thornton's article shares our sentiment. Pilbara Solar will keep doing what we do best – to support First Nations people to lead renewable energy projects on their Country.

Yesterday, Pilbara Solar Directors Dr Richard Finlay-Jones (main picture left) and Dr Geoff James (right) visited Cape Keraudren Nature Reserve in the East Pilbara with Pilbara Solar Project Manager Will Davis (centre) to check in on the Reserve’s operational Gilghi solar powered water treatment unit. Taking the opportunity to rehydrate, the team all agreed the water tasted great and the unit is performing exceptionally well. The Gilghi has become a popular stop for visitors requiring a freshwater refill. Located 150kms north of Port Hedland, Cape Keraudren is an area of high cultural significance to the Ngarla traditional owners, and a great camp site for fishing and crabbing.

A review of remote water services was commissioned by the Water Services Association of Australia in 2021. A Preliminary Report is now available here: https://cutt.ly/7XnTUpX , with the full report scheduled for release in November 2022. This Preliminary Report raises serious concerns about the current quality of water available in many remote locations, and recommends not only employing emerging, innovative, clean energy as a potential solution, but also stresses the importance of Investing in First Nations people and businesses in the process.
