Have wheels, will travel … and fundraise.

That was the plan for Team MACA rider Shane Lindsay who decided to boost his MACA Cancer 200 fundraising efforts by dusting off his scooter and signing up as a DoorDash delivery driver whilst on R&R.

Shane has already surpassed his initial $5000 goal, raising more than $900 through DoorDash and said he will keep fundraising until the ride in October.

Like many riders, Shane has a personal reason for wanting to raise vital funds for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, after his dad battled cancer in his early 50s.

Meet Seth, Apprentice Fitter at the Western Region Maintenance Hub in Hazelmere.

From a young age, Seth has been drawn to hands-on work and problem-solving. He is now building on those skills through MACA’s apprenticeship program as he works to become a qualified Heavy Diesel Fitter.

Currently in the first year of his apprenticeship, Seth has mainly been working on Caterpillar trucks but is looking forward to progressing on to bulldozers as he builds a strong and secure career foundation in the resources sector.

Seth enjoys the challenge of diagnosing an issue and working to fix it as he maintains and repairs a range of heavy mining equipment.

Meet Barbara, Dump Truck Operator at the Karlawinda Gold Project.

Barabara is living proof that it is never too late for a career change.

While being a truck driver was always on her bucket list, it wasn’t until health issues forced her husband out of work that she took the plunge, applying for a role at MACA in her late fifties.

She has now been with MACA for five years and feels “eternally grateful” that she gets to realise a life-long dream.

Barbara said the best thing about being on site is the fact that everyone is so supportive of each another, to the point where co-workers feel like extended family.

She is grateful for the opportunities the mining industry offers and encourages others to take the leap, regardless of age or stage of life.

Meet Simon, Warehousing Lead at MACA’s Welshpool Distribution Centre.

After nearly 30 years in his previous role, Simon made the decision to step outside his comfort zone and join the Thiess Group to broaden his skills and experience.

In his current role, Simon oversees the receipting of goods destined for Thiess and MACA sites, helping ensure operations run smoothly and teams have the resources they need.

One of the things Simon values most about working at MACA is the opportunity to give back through the company's strong commitment to community initiatives. Having previously volunteered at the ride rally barbecues, he's taking his involvement to the next level as a first-time rider in this year's MACA Cancer 200 Ride for the Perkins event.

Looking ahead, Simon is focused on driving continuous improvement, with a goal of enhancing efficiencies and streamlining operations across the distribution centre.

Originally from New Zealand, Abigail made the move to WA in order to take advantage of the opportunities mining offers.
