𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗶 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱

Last week our Director, Jarrod Smith, and Client Relationship Manager, Michael Dodgson, attended Supply Nation’s Connect 2025 in Sydney – one of the key national events bringing Indigenous businesses, industry and government together.

It was a great chance to reconnect with familiar faces, meet new people, and share the work we’re delivering across our projects. The strength of the Indigenous business network is growing every year, and it’s always encouraging to see the opportunities that come from these conversations.

And yes – the LEGO was back on the table. It’s become a bit of a calling card for us, sparking plenty of yarns (and a smile or two) while reminding us that the next generation of builders is never far away.

We’re now looking ahead to NSWICC’s The Summit in October, where we’ll also be exhibiting. Come by, have a chat, and you might even take home some LEGO of your own.

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗼𝗴𝗼 𝗚𝗼𝘁 𝗠𝘂𝗱𝗱𝘆 – 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗲’𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝘁

Each year, Indigenous Rounds are a chance to honour culture, community and connection. This year’s round in Lake Cargelligo was no exception.

We were proud to support the Tullibigeal Lake Cargelligo United Sharks for their Indigenous Round on 27 July – with our Girri Birrang logo front and centre on the playing shorts.

The weather turned it into a proper mud match, but it didn’t dampen the energy or pride on the field.

Girri Birrang has worked in Lake Cargelligo in the past, and we’ve stayed connected with the local Indigenous community since. This was a chance to give back in a small but meaningful way.

As our Director Jarrod Smith put it:

“It’s important to keep showing up for community – especially in the places where we’ve worked. These rounds say a lot about who we are and what we value.”

Big thanks to the players, families and organisers who brought the day to life.

𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀

Each year, the Indigenous Round brings people together in a way that goes deeper than the game. It’s about culture, pride, and backing the next generation.

This was our second year supporting the Orange United Warriors, and we were proud to be part of it again. Michael Dodgson represented Girri Birrang on the day, presenting jerseys to the Youth, Ladies and Men’s teams – a small gesture that carried real meaning.

Reflecting on the day, Michael shared:

“It was an honour to be part of something that celebrates identity – both on and off the field. You could see the pride in every player. That’s what makes these rounds matter.”

Our connection to the Warriors came through work we’d done in Lake Cargelligo, where we’ve stayed in touch with the Local Aboriginal Land Council. That introduction grew into something ongoing – and that’s how we like to work.

𝐖𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐡𝐞’𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝑴𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒆𝒍 𝑪𝒊𝒂𝒗𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒂 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐡𝐞’𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐨𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭

Meet Michael Ciavarella – or as the Girri Birrang team affectionately calls him, ‘CIA’. His official title? National Transport & Quarries Manager. But if you ask him, he’s in the business of ‘weight loss for rocks’ and moonlights as a psychologist on call 24/7 (for machines and people alike).

Michael’s journey started years ago when he got his break in the quarrying, concrete, and mining industry with a local family business that was willing to teach him fast. Since then, he’s been moving mountains – literally – by sourcing and transporting quarry materials for civil and infrastructure projects across Australia. For Michael, it’s more than just logistics – it’s about leaving a legacy. The projects he works on today will be standing for generations, something he’s proud to share with his family.

A day in the life of CIA? He’ll tell you that “nothing ever goes wrong in quarries and logistics” – because by the time a problem happens, he’s already solved it. His most indispensable tool? His phone. Not just for staying connected, but for the occasional pocket dial to keep the team on their toes (and maybe to stir the pot a little).

Raised in a hardworking Italian family, Michael carries the lessons of his childhood into everything he does: start at sunrise, finish at sunset, and never shy away from a challenge. His motto? “If someone says you can’t, use that drive to prove them wrong.”

And if you’re new to the industry? Michael’s advice: listen, learn, ask questions, and be persistent. A ‘no’ is just a step toward a different ‘yes.’
