Territoria Civil has deep roots in the Territory, and the same goes for many of our team members.

We asked our Infrastructure Manager Mark Stinton what it is about living and working up here that ticks all his boxes.

How long have you lived in the Territory?
I grew up in the Territory and did all my education up to Year 12 here. I went to university interstate, as civil engineering was not available in the NT at that time, and went on to work on many projects around Australia before coming back home. So, in total 28 years in the Territory.

How long have you worked for Territoria?
Seven years, and before that 15 years with John Holland.

What project are you most proud to have worked on, and why?
The Alice Springs to Darwin Railway, because of the sheer scope and distance it covered. It was the last great trans-continental railway to have been built, and the experiences, skills and relationships I gained helped make me the engineer I am today.

What’s the best thing about living and working in the Top End?
There’s so much to love – where do I start?! Probably the natural beauty right on your doorstep. Also, Darwin has so much going for it. There’s an exciting pipeline ahead to help the city grow and attract more people to come and live here. I'm really excited for the opportunity to be a part of this growth.

What’s your ideal Sunday look like?
An early morning ride out on the singletracks of Lee Point on my mountain bike, before getting home to my lovely family and heading out to the Nightcliff Markets for some breakfast. Would probably get some preparation done for the upcoming work week, before catching up for dinner with my mum and brother.

Territoria Civil is currently delivering some important safety improvements on the Stuart Highway near Adelaide River, so it was a no brainer for us to get behind the local campdraft gymkhana earlier this month.
We were proud to sponsor the kids’ event, which attracted 30 to 40 enthusiastic young riders. A great turn-out and a great day at Adelaide River!
We’ll be in the area for a while yet as we complete our scope of works, which includes shoulder rehabilitation, sealing and safety barrier and culvert extensions.
It’s all about making the highway safer for locals and visitors alike.

When you ask our Territoria Civil team to name their top job, many find it hard to go past the Darwin City Waterfront project.
“It’s an iconic destination, a must-do for tourists visiting Darwin,” says our Tony Kruger.
As part of a consortium, our team brought to the table its expertise working in complex marine environments, delivering the dredging (up to 16 m below the seabed) and marine construction works for the sea wall.
The project also included earthworks for the Convention Centre, and civil works including landscaping, roads and drainage, beach areas and the construction of the Smith Street Bridge.
“We knew as we delivered this project that we were creating something pretty special for the people of Darwin," says Tony.
"And with many people in our team being born and raised here, it was a place for many of our own families to enjoy as well.
"There’s a huge sense of pride taking the kids down to the wave pool on a weekend or bringing visitors to enjoy a feed and the view from the Waterfront that we built.”

Garramilla Boulevard is a Territoria Civil project with benefits that will be felt for years to come.
Completed in October 2019, the four-lane highway and eastern entry point to Darwin’s CBD has been constructed to cater for current and future needs by connecting areas earmarked for future development.
It includes pedestrian and cycle paths, roadside amenities and an outdoor amphitheatre that together transform the entry point into a modern gateway that can be enjoyed by all.
The project was constructed in two stages, and we are proud to have completed the entire project seven months ahead of schedule. More than 98 per cent of the project costs were spent with local suppliers and subcontractors, and the team worked hard to design work packages to enable participation by Indigenous businesses.

What’s one of the most transformative projects the Territoria Civil team has delivered?

That would have to be Australia’s largest ever rollout of solar power across 25 of the NT’s most remote Indigenous communities.

The goal of the Solar Energy Transformation Program (SETuP) was to reduce the reliance these communities had on diesel generated power. The installation of more than 28,000 PV panels aimed to deliver cleaner, cheaper and more reliable energy to people who needed it.

As part of the project, our team had to overcome logistical challenges and navigate some of the harshest terrain to access communities on the NT mainland and offshore islands.

“This was a job like no other,” recalls Marco Gerbino. “We were camping in tents that doubled as site offices, working amongst some of the world’s most untouched landscapes, and with communities rich in culture. It was pretty special to be able to do something that would contribute to community independence, with the solar panels reducing the need for diesel to be transported into these communities to run the electricity generators.”

A highlight of this project was that during delivery, we were able to employ almost 1 in 5 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders people, both from local communities and other parts of the NT.

Since the project was completed in December 2018, SETuP has won a number of engineering excellence awards. And because of the effort and innovation by all involved, the Territory is now seen as a leader in remote hybrid power generation.

Territoria Civil is proud to have had a hand in establishing Icthys LNG, an operation that contributes around $649 million each year for the Australian and Territory governments and $132 million in wages and salaries to its Territory-based workforce.
Our involvement in the construction of this large-scale oil and gas facility began in 2011 and continued through to its opening in 2017. We completed multiple onshore projects, with our team delivering key infrastructure works required during the development of the site located near Darwin.
Not only did the expertise, hard work and excellence in delivery lead to a great client relationship and consecutive contracts for the team, but it also earned the project multiple awards, including two Earth Awards from the Civil Contractors Federation NT and an Excellence in Building and Construction Awards – Occupational Health and Safety Award from Master Builders NT.

On Friday evening, the Territoria Civil Team had a fantastic time attending the Darwin Star Ball. The event raises funds for the Starlight Children’s Foundation NT and the business proudly sponsored a Wish Table, which grants a life-changing Starlight Wish to give a sick child and their family a welcome break from the reality of illness and treatment, to create lasting memories.

It was an amazing event to be a part of and was made more special as this Wish Table was in memory of our dear friend Chris “Willow” Wilson. Chris was a part of the Starlight Foundation Committee NT who put this event together in Darwin.

Territoria Civil was proud to take out the 2021 Civil Contractors Federation NT Ltd in the $10M to $30M category for its LDPRP C022 – Hardstand Bulk Earthworks and Revetment Wall Upgrade Project at Larrakeyah Defence Precinct in Darwin.

An integral component of the projects success involved the delivery of all construction materials via powered barge, minimising interface and interruption to both the Navy base and the surrounding suburbs.
