kW vs kWh, what's the difference?

If you've ever looked at a solar quote or your electricity bill and wondered what kW and kWh actually mean, you're not alone!

Although they look similar, they measure two different things:

⚡ kW (kilowatts) measures power – the rate at which electricity is being generated or used at any given moment.

🔋 kWh (kilowatt-hours) measures energy – the total amount of electricity generated or used over a period of time.

Here's a simple example:

☀️ Imagine you have a 10 kW solar system.

On a sunny day, it might generate around 50 kWh of electricity.

That means:
✅ 10 kW is the maximum amount of power your system can produce at one time.
✅ 50 kWh is the total amount of energy it produced throughout the day.

An easy way to remember it is:

🚗 kW is like your speedometer – how fast you're travelling right now.

🛣️ kWh is like the distance on your trip meter – how far you've travelled over time.

Understanding the difference can make it much easier to compare solar systems, read your electricity bill and see how your solar is performing.
