Each year on the 7th of August, the Jindal Group, which is the major investor of Wollongong Coal Limited, celebrates Jindal Founder’s Day.
This auspicious day in the company is recognised annually by the Jindal Group’s various world-wide interests as it is the anniversary of the birth of the group’s founding chairman, the late Mr Om Prakash Jindal.
From humble beginnings, Mr Jindal started his career in 1952 and went on to become a well-respected industrialist heading his own company. Mr Jindal is considered a visionary for not only his business expertise but for his social responsibilities.
And, with this in mind, each of the Jindal companies celebrates the 7th of July by way of giving to worthy or needy organisations.
As a neighbour of Wollongong Coal’s Wongawilli Colliery, The Little School Pre-School was this year’s recipient.
The school is community-based and not-for-profit and caters for three to six-year-olds.
It relies on donations to improve the facilities it provides for the children.
On the 8th of August, the Jindal Group’s Managing Director, Mr Ravi Uppal, together with Wollongong Coal’s CEO, Mr Milind Oza, visited the school and presented iPads and books to the school’s director, Ms Danae Horsey.
Wollongong Coal also provided funds to enable the school to purchase a child-safe utility pump to enable the children to water the gardens they have helped to establish at the school.
Mr Jindal is fondly remembered by the saying “Where others saw walls, he saw doors.”
