Autumn is the time to give your gate setup a once-over before winter hits.

Three quick checks that save callouts later:

1. Wipe down the solar panel. Dust, leaves and bird mess are the biggest reason batteries underperform heading into winter.
2. Clear the slide track. A few stones or twigs is all it takes to make the motor work twice as hard.
3. Check the battery is still holding charge — shorter days mean less solar in, so a tired battery shows up fast in June.

Ten minutes now beats a stuck gate on a wet July morning.

Heading into winter? Now's the time to give your gate a once-over.

Cold mornings, shorter days and dirty solar panels are the three things that put gate motors out of action through June and July.

Five-minute autumn checklist:
- Wipe down the solar panel — even a thin layer of dust drops charge by 20–30%
- Check the battery age (most AGMs last 3–5 years — if yours is older, plan a swap before the cold hits)
- Clear leaves and debris from the slide track or hinge points
- Test the manual quick release pin so you know it works if the power drops out
- Run the gate through 5–6 cycles and listen for any new noises

Sort it now and you'll get through winter without a 6am phone call from someone stuck at the gate.

Wrapped up a double swing gate install on a large property out past Pakenham.

Hydra Series setup — solar powered, GSM module so the owner can open the gate from his phone whether he's at the front paddock or down at the coast.

Why solar made sense here:
- No mains power near the gate (would've been at least $4k trenching job)
- Plenty of clear sky exposure
- Owner wanted a clean, low-maintenance setup

Add the obstruction detection and positive gate lock and it's a setup that handles itself for years. Italian motors, Australian-built control box, 2-year warranty backed by 20+ years in the trade.

If you've got a property where running mains is a nightmare, solar is genuinely the smarter call.

Macedon, 6 months on and still going strong.
This one came to us after two other companies had a crack at automating it and couldn't make close reliably.
Big gate, exposed location, serious wind loading — standard electric openers were never going to cope.
The fix was a mains-powered hydraulic system, purpose-designed for heavy gates in high wind-load conditions. Quiet, strong, and built to handle whatever the weather throws at it.
Hasn't missed a beat since.
