THE BUILDING WAS DESIGNED ACCORDING TO BNBC 2020. ALL STANDARDS HAVE BEEN ENSURED AND SOLVED THE HUGE CANTILEVER WITH RCC TENSION MEMBER MAKING THOSE AS ARCHITECTURAL BEAUTY WHICH ENHANCE THE BUILDING MORE ATTRACTIVE INCORPORATING OUR PROPOSED SOLUTION FOR CANTILEVER.
STRUCTURAL SOLUTION IS JUST NOT ABOUT TO HAVE KNOWLDGE OF DOING CALCULATION OF USE SOME SOFTWARE. ITS MORE ABOUT TO VISUALISE THE STRUCTURE AND GET SMOOTH IDEAS TO SOLVE THE PROJECT BEFORE DOING ANY CALCULATION.

Design is just not about to do some software work blindly. Things need to check and validate with manual calculation to challenge and be confident on design output. Whatever it is 1000 sft project or 1000000 sft project.

New challenge that we always love to face.
Hospital building with capacity of 750 bed.
Lots of horizontal and vertical irregularities. Two major punches. 14 storied with single basement.
It’s about 200 meter long and 50 meter wide. Each floor around 60,000.00+ sqft to 90,000.00+ sqft.
Gross built up are of this hospital is around 10, 00, 000.00+ sqft.

With horizontal and vertical irregularities, solving with BNBC 2020 was a challenge.

It’s a great opportunity to be a part of a project that will be a Top Down Construction. Along with structural design we are now into evaluation of soil stress, deformation etc. due to the Top Down Method on surrounding structures.

Completion of another project that challeged us in term of serviceability. The wind were inducing a defelction that is twice the allowable limit defined by the code. Moreover it was not possible to introduce shear wall at the location where we needed most. As such, we had to trick the framing a lot to ensure a safe building.

Also the building inherited several vertical and horizontal irregularities as such we adopted Response Spectrum Method for Seismic Analysis. In addition to that eccentricity of the diaphargm were evaluated and adjusted accordingly. More that 95% of the seismic mass participation ratio was ensured and we considered 90% of the seismic base shear from the Equivalent Lateral Force method.

We also performed Modal Analysis to study the dynamic nature of the building and the analysis revealed that it has torsional behaviour in first mode. So we eliminated that through modification of the framing system.

Manual calculation and design of deep excavation using limit equilibrium method can not assess the real time situation of ground change, displacement both in vertical and horizontal direction, impact on adjacent structures etc. To evaluate the more accurate actual situation 2D analysis is mandatory. And if we have sufficient scope to analyze using 3D analysis, we can get the more real time situation. Plaxis 3D is very efficient in this matter.
This is how we challenge ourselves to strive. Our first collaborative project to assess the deep excavation.
We ascertained that followings are within prescribed limit
1. Lateral Deflection specially shore pile.
2. Ground Loss at different stage of construction of deep excavation and its protection system.
3. Vertical Settlement of shore pile as well as total protection system.
While checking these parameters we were unable to find any literature in BNBC, as such we studied several other standards, case studies and research paper to assess the factor of safety.

We are grateful for this opportunity which again challenged us to strive.
We have analyzed in both Plaxis 2D and Plaxis 3D. Below you can find some view of analysis-
