It can measure 🔋 Voltage, Current, Resistance, and even Diodes & Continuity — all in one device!

Here’s what you should remember:

✅ AC Voltage (V~) – for measuring alternating voltage
✅ DC Voltage (V—) – for measuring battery or DC supply
✅ Ammeter (A) – for measuring current
✅ Ω (Ohm) – to check resistance

⚡ Ammeter & Voltmeter Connection – Explained Simply! ⚡

Ever wondered how to correctly connect an Ammeter and a Voltmeter in a single-phase circuit? 🤔
Here’s the basic setup shown in the picture 👇

🔹 Voltmeter — connected in parallel with the load (motor) to measure voltage.
🔹 Ammeter — connected in series with the load to measure current.
🔹 Single Phase Motor — powered through the circuit breaker for protection.
🔹 Phase (P) = Red wire, Neutral (N) = Black wire.

✅ Important Tips:

1. Ammeter must always be in series, otherwise it may get damaged.

2. Voltmeter must always be in parallel.

3. Always turn off the power before making any connection.

4. Use proper-rated meters and breakers for safety.

Choosing the correct wire size and MCB rating is not just about performance — it’s about safety! 🔥

Here’s a quick guide (as shown in the picture):

🔹 Fan → 15A MCB | 🔌 1.5 mm² wire
🔹 Iron → 21A MCB | 🔌 2.5 mm² wire
🔹 Air Conditioner (AC) → 27A MCB | 🔌 4 mm² wire
🔹 Factory Line (Medium Load) → 50A MCB | 🔌 10 mm² wire
🔹 Factory Heavy Load → 64A MCB | 🔌 6 mm² wire

✅ Right wire = Longer lifespan + Fire protection + Energy efficiency

Step 1 — Safety first

1. Turn off and isolate the supply at the pole or main switch.

2. Wear PPE (insulated gloves, goggles). If you are not a qualified electrician, do not touch live wiring — hire a licensed electrician.

Step 2 — Incoming supply & meter

1. Overhead supply (from pole) brings Live (red) and Neutral (blue) into the meter.

2. The meter measures consumption and feeds the consumer side (outgoing live & neutral).

Step 3 — Main distribution board

1. Outgoing Live from the meter goes into the distribution board (usually into a main isolator or first breaker).

2. Outgoing Neutral goes to the neutral busbar (terminal block).

3. Incoming earth (ground) is connected to the earth busbar.

Step 4 — Protection devices (MCBs / RCCB)

1. From the main feed, separate MCBs/RCDs protect each circuit. In the picture there are three breaker modules — typically for:

Lighting circuit

Fans / regulators

Sockets (power outlets)

2. Each breaker’s input gets the phase from the main; its output sends phase to the respective circuit.

Step 5 — Neutral & earth distribution

1. All neutrals from lamps, fan and sockets are tied to the neutral busbar (blue wires).

2. All earths (green) from fixtures, metal boxes and sockets are tied to the earth busbar.

Step 6 — Lighting circuit wiring (example)

1. Live from lighting MCB → switch (red).

2. Switch output → lamp live (red continuation).

3. Lamp neutral → neutral busbar (blue).

4. Earth from lamp body (if metal) → earth busbar (green).

Simple rule: Live passes through switch to fixture; neutral returns directly to neutral bus.

Step 7 — Fan + regulator circuit

1. Live from fan MCB → fan regulator (speed controller) (red).

2. Regulator output → fan live (red).

3. Fan neutral → neutral busbar (blue).

4. Fan earth → earth busbar (green).

(The regulator is in series with the live to vary fan speed.)

Step 8 — Socket (power outlet) circuit

1. Live from socket MCB → socket live pin (red).

2. Neutral from neutral bus → socket neutral pin (blue).

3. Earth from earth bus → socket earth pin (green).
Sockets usually have a larger cable size and a higher-rated MCB.

Step 9 — Terminal blocks / busbars

1. Terminal blocks are used to join multiple neutrals or earths neatly.

2. They make it easy to distribute neutral and earth to several fixtures.

Step 10 — Final checks & testing

1. Verify all connections are tight and correctly insulated.

2. Check polarity: live should be switchable; neutral must be continuous.

3. Test earth continuity (earth to metal parts) with a tester.

4. Switch on the main and test each breaker and circuit individually.

5. If an RCD/RCCB is present, press TEST button to confirm it trips.

Useful practical notes (typical, may vary by local rule)

Recommended cable sizes (typical domestic):

Lighting: 1.0–1.5 mm² copper.

Fan: 1.0–1.5 mm² copper.

Sockets: 2.5 mm² copper.

MCB ratings often: Lighting 6–10 A, Sockets 16–20 A — choose per load and local code.

Always follow your local electrical code and use proper MCB/RCD coordination.
