A Recent Fire Incident Reaffirms the Importance of Preparedness, Trained People, and Strong Safety Systems
At approximately 8:25 PM on May 10, 2026, a fire incident occurred at Birichina Unit 1 of SQ Station, Mymensingh. The fire originated from the outdoor unit of an air cooler on the 4th floor and spread externally to portions of the 5th and 6th floors.
While any fire incident is a matter of serious concern, the outcome of this event demonstrated the importance of preparedness, trained emergency response teams, and robust fire safety systems.
We would like to share a few important reflections from this incident:
Preparedness and systems work.
The fire was identified immediately by our trained internal firefighting team, who responded without delay using the facility’s fire hydrant system. The fire remained confined to the exterior of the building and did not pe*****te any internal production areas. Most importantly, no employees were injured.
A well-implemented Emergency Response and Reporting Procedure, together with regular workplace drills, also proved invaluable in managing an incident of this nature.
Courage and coordination matter.
We are deeply proud of our internal firefighting, engineering and maintenance, and sustainability teams for their disciplined, decisive, and courageous response. Their rapid coordination ensured that the fire was contained before it could spread further, helping prevent what could have become a major incident affecting both people and property.
Every incident is also a learning opportunity.
While the emergency response systems functioned effectively, we believe continuous improvement is essential. A detailed review of the incident is already underway to further strengthen our preventive measures and integrated response procedures across all facilities.
This incident serves as a powerful reminder that trained people, effective equipment, and a culture of continuous learning remain the strongest safeguards in any workplace.
Note:
Officials from the Government Fire Service, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of DIFE, and local police authorities responded promptly and visited the site. After the fire was fully extinguished, they held an onsite press briefing and commended the swift and well-coordinated response of Q Collection’s internal teams in containing the incident without any casualties.
