Atlas Bangladesh Limited (ABL) was established as a private enterprise in 1966 on 9.67 acres of land in the Tongi industrial area, with technical assistance from Honda Motors Company of Japan. The company is currently operated under the control of the Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation, under the Ministry of Industries. In 1987, the company was converted into a public limited company. Cu
rrently, 51% of the company's shares are held by the government, and the remaining 49% are held by the public. For 44 years, ABL was the sole distributor of Honda Motors Company in Japan, achieving a strong reputation as a state-owned industrial enterprise. It imported CKD parts for various models of Honda motorcycles from Japan, India, and Pakistan, which were then assembled and marketed at its own factory. Currently, ABL imports and assembles parts for the fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly "Atlas EV" brand of electric bikes at its factory.
